Hey people,

I am getting ready to do a bit of a ring around for some quotes on insuring a AUIIXR6 or XR8. I am 21, only lost one demerit and am interested to know what a lot of the younger guys around here with XR's are paying.

I am hoping it will be around the $1500 mark but will have to wait and see. Any insurers that you guys would recommend?

good luck getting at 1500!!!

my dad has an au2 xr6 vct and he is paying 1200 - hes got full NCB, and hasn't had an accident that was his fault in the last 5 years. Most of the insurers also wouldn't insure anyone under 25 - ie me and my bro who are both under 20, couldn't touch it (not that he lets us drive it anyway!!!) i think he went with nrma in the end - took a bit of haggling though - each time you call you get a different figure!!!

just be thankful its only a ford - my uncle got a maserati 3200gt (twin turbo v8) and he got quoted $40000 (yep that's four zeros) from GIO. In the end he got it from a broker

I reckon brokers would be your best bet

ps: 1200 is comprehensive.

I think ud get it for 1200 in perth.

In Sydney ud be really lucky though. I believe its the most expensive place to insure, perhaps even about double the victorian prices?

You should be fine with your 1500 limit, but that depends on how much the car is worth! Also RAC is a bit more flexible with young drivers and V8 and Turbo cars, where on the other hand if your under 24 QBE wont cover you at all!

Do what all the young people in Perth do, put it under your mums name and nominate yourself as second driver. Lot cheaper.

I would if I could but my parents are kind of anti-cars and said if I want to buy an XR I will have to take full responsibility for it so no help with the insurance.

Thats fair enough tho, but it will make it a lot harder.

HBF are cheap as chips to insure with. RAC wanted 2k a yr to insure 4L 94 fairmont agreed 12k bla bla. and HBF offered me 1400 all the same details etc etc.

give them a ring and see how it goes.

Did you buy your XR new? Cheapest quote I got when I bought mine was through Ford. My xr6 ute is around $700, I was with AAMI with my last car and they wanted close to a grand for the XR. I was a bit surprised as they were the cheapest I could find for the Verada.
