Interesting?

Just been visiting a site called Falcon facts, checking out the specs on different Falcons

It lists the 1/4 mile (402 meters) times for an Xy 250 ci with 4 speed as 17 sec
and the Au 4lL with 4 speed auto as 16.5 sec for 400 meters. Thats a 2 meter advantage to the Au. Interesting?

Any thoughts?

Re: Interesting?

I've seen 4.0 AU's go faster then that in Forte form, so eh. 16.2's, 16.0's, 15.9's etc.

Re: Interesting?

Yeah the older cars are faster then the newer cars over the quater mile, but the newer cars are faster round the track, with all the new regulations and restictions new cars are made to be nice to the environment, there was none of that back then. it's the same for all makes.

Re: Interesting?

I’m not so sure the time for the XY is right, or at least I would be surprised if it was 17sec flat. The first Valiant Pacer was a quick car for it’s day, ie quicker than most other cars on the road with a quarter mile time of mid-low 17s (which is different than saying it was quicker than all other cars on sale, many of which never sold too many).

Does it say if it was the 2V version, that was a good bit quicker than the standard 250 (like an XR6 version).

If you were to compare the auto XY you could add probably 1.5-2 sec to that time, the old autos were a lot slower.

Re: Interesting?

The point is that older cars were tested over 1/4 mile which is 402 meters as opposed to todays cars over 400 meters

Re: Interesting?

And i have seen new car mags compare car performance using their original road test from the 70"s and use them to claim a vast improvement in performance, while knowing that the figures they use are not valid.

Tacking an extra two metres on the track is hardly going to make a "vast difference" though is it?
