It's the thought that counts

Mate of mine lives on a hobby farm about an hour from Melbourne. His brother works on stations up around NT / Qld border and could be described as impulsive, amongst other things.

Brother gets a few beers in and decides my mate’s kids need a calf as they’ve only got a pony. Gets a calf and tethers it in the light truck ute and drives down without telling anyone he’s coming. Probably about a two slab trip.

Arrives about 3 am and goes to kitchen for a coffee. My mate says g’day and goes back to bed.

Calf gets restless after the long trip and kicks ute and carries on for a while, then quietens down. Brother has another coffee and then goes out to release calf.

Noise has been because calf has got out of ute and strangled itself to death hanging over the side.

Ex-calf is gone by the time the kids get up.

I had a dog that tried to commit suicide off the side of a ute once.

My dad parked the ute, and ran into the servo I was working at... about 2 mins later a customer came in and told me that there was a dog trying to committ suicide hanging from a ute...

My dad flew out there so fast!!....

The dog lived.

My mate had a Jack Russell tied up in the back of his ute with a long rope and he went over a big bump and the dog fell out and was dragged along behind the ute for a few hundred metres and ground half it's foot away (literally). It eventually recovered from this and continued to hop around on three and three-quarter legs until it ran out on the road one day and was splattered by a passing motorist who didn't bother to stop.
I forgot to mention that his previous dog, also a Jack Russell met a similar fate but involved a kid on a BMX bike instead of a car. Hopefully they are in doggy heaven together.

You know, somebody actually complimented me on my driving today. They left a little note on the windscreen. It said, 'Parking Fine.'So that was nice.
