Anyone know much about the Interceptors? I have the chance to buy one at a very good price. Car has been completely restored in a ground-up process-and has a Chrysler 440 Magnum/A727 powertrain package.

Paying $9950USD-is the car worth it?

The Jenson interceptors are fantastically sneaky cars. when they are running, they can run very fast, from memory they have some lumping huge engine stock (7.2L V8).. Problems are things like rust, electrics etc etc..

Is it worth it? Depends, doubt it would make it as a daily driver, but as a weekender, well...

10k usd sounds pretty pricey tho.. They are getting on a bit.. depends on the engine condition, body work etc..

nice looking cars and they went well. i am pretty sure that they were also very unreliable though and i think they rusted out quickly...pretty standard for a british car. if it has been restored and is running a different drivetrain, then it could be nice. good luck.

I'd buy it just for the name.....Jensen 'Interceptor'...that, and they're a good looking car.

Having owned (and restored) one I'd think that's a fair price. Like most British cars of the era the bodies and electrics were the weak link and body parts are fairly hard to come by now but as long as you can live with those limitations they are good fun and still look good 30 years later.

I think that the factory 440 interceptors were called SP they should have 2 slots in the front guards (like the 4WD FF model). I think that the small blocks (360? cid) had only 1 slot.

All this is from a very hazy memory, so if anyone wants to correct me ......

The Jensen Interceptors were made mid-60s to mid-70s, and were an evolution of earlier Jensens which had earlier used Austin 4 litre 6cyl’s before the fibreglass bodied SV8 which had quite interesting styling, which was far from being to everyone’s taste! The Interceptor was steel bodied (bit prone to rust – everywhere – so check this) with a large glass hatchback at the rear. Early ones had the 383 while later ones had the 440 once emission controls came in (& are slower than early cars in stock form anyway). Only the FF (four wheel drive models with ABS in 1966?) had the twin vent. There was a late version called the SP which had triple carbs. Also a convertible. They’re a big heavy car, mostly auto as you have found, but reasonably well-balanced as the engine is set back well in the engine bay. Not too good on fuel obviously! $10k US sounds pretty good if the car is in good nick. Hope this helps.

Couldn't agree more with the rust issue. Any old car ex England will have rust issues as they salt their roads during winter to break up ice, salt which destroys the underbody of a car in only a few years. If you can get one that's rust free however....... the price seems pretty fair.
