Hey pplz, some of u will and wont kno i have just bought some New (couple of months old) Genie extracors off a wrecked EF from my bro... i had a look at them today and theyre awesome, but... they havent been coated with anything and have the red/rustic look that most extarctors have... what i want to kno is...

1) is there anythin out the that i could coat them... like a heat proof, jet blak coating?
2) How would i do it and what prep work would have to be done? i presume it would not cost much this way.
3) would jet hot coating be worth the buck by sending them away instead?

any help would be great... i wanna do this so that my engine bay looks clean and neat, not with messy extractors standing out more than my red rocker cover...

just paint in them with some matt black VHT engine paint...$10 a can ..just sand the crap off first

VHT- whats that stand for? is it heat resistant? where from? sorry bout all the questions!

vht is the brand name, not sure if it stands for anything. You can get it from places like repco autobahn, supercheap and k-mart. You will tell when you have the right type because it says high temp or something similar like that on the front of the can.

hmm.. i hope its good stuff... dont want it to flake or buble when the engine starts..... will go into local autobahn tommoro and ask. ne other suggestions?

Yeah VHT Fireproof is the paint you want. Come in a range of colours and will stay on for a number of years. My first coat lasted about 3 years. I recoated last year and it is still good.

extractors on my old XP were that same red and rusty, so silly me i slapped rust converter on it. although once they got hot i had all these white areas appearing on them! scrubbed that $hit off after it cooled down and they are actually black in colour now

So i give it a bit of a sand to get off the red and flakey bits and slap it on... or is it spray? cheers!

The more sanding and prep work you do, the longer it will probably last. When I did mine earlier this year I didn't bother with any sanding, just sprayed the stuff on and so far it is fine.
