Well i was just browsing the forums on Fordmods.com and came across the qtr mile times Brendan ran a few weeks ago.
The results are in, i'll leave it up to you all to decide what you think about the claimed output figures.
This was a Dev5 XR6 Auto falcon fully modded, full street trim, which means 170+rwkw. It recorded a 15.003 @ 95MPH (he is claiming it will run 14.7 easily). Assuming this engine copped a full rebuild along with the modifications, it would have cost upwards of $7,000 for joe bloe to drive in and out to have this done.
Now my stocky EF Fairmont Auto ran a 15.901 @ 89MPH. In fairness the mock car was raced on a 30deg day, whereas mine was run at night time in the High teens. But for a N/A its not going to make a HUGE difference as it would a forced inducted engine.
Well i know i can spend another 2-3k (on top of) and pump out another 100rwkw+ with a custom turbo setup.
I am not having a go at the JMM team at all. There work is fantastic, and im glad to see a company finally working on the ole' I6...
Some people are going to have a field trip on this information, and for the rest, well be kind, hehe
I imagine with a manual and a cooler day could see 100mph traps? which is good enough for high 13s/flat 14s.
As for the heat factor, I know mine is a slug in temps of 30+

i think there not bad times, 30 degrees is fairly warm.... and you think .9 of a second between your car and his isnt much, well he is only .3 of a second off what he claimed... could be interesting on a cooler day, maybe better reaction, less wheel spin... 15 flats not to impressive, but 14.9 is for a 6 cyl.
I think the car would be more then capable of running low 14's, high 13's like martin said, on a good day, and you will not have the same possible problems as you would with a turbo as this is a completely rebuilt engine.
I think his dev 4 kit is around $3200 fitted, cant remember what the dev5 is worth though...

15.003 isn't exactly great for 170kW+ RWKW. Some of the EA's were running low 15's with only slight modifications to the engines at the last Heathcote drag meet the E-series club held, I'd expect a bit more from 7 grands worth of work. Those times were run in 40 degree heat too. The EA's (like NZinAUS's car) didnt have a huge amount of power to start with, with the small amounts of mods done to these cars, they would have been lucky to have 170kW at the flywheel to be running the low 15's. With 7 grands worth of work, I'd expect to drop the time by more than that.
My stock 157kW EF ran 16.6's in the heat, so the "stocky EF Fairmont Auto" time of 15.9 must have been run in alot cooler conditions, as they are a heavier car.
While I'm no expert of drag racing, I'd be having a look at where the 7 grand was going, and why the car with 170+ rwKw was only pulling 15 flat. Must have had a few spare tires on board.
I'd be interested to know why.... cheers........ Tim

How much boost?
Yeah my car was run at about 7pm on a 17-20degree night at sea level (quit motorplex is a stone throw from the beach).
I have run it only once ever down the strip, and 15.901 was the time which i was well happy with. I could have bettered that time with more practice from the launch, but i only wanted to know what it could do stock, no point in thrashing it more to get only a few tenths more.
Interesting how EA's were running low 15s on a 40deg day with bugger all work, and heres a tought EF on a 30deg day pulling those times also...

The EA's are bloody light for such a big car and the multi point manuals pull 15.5 out of the box.
Now yes they are older cars now and as such slower but if you had a stocker ea with nothing but a rebuilt motor some sticky tyres and an exhaust and induction work I'd say a low 15 is a certianty.

Why don't you check out the threads in the E-series community, I'm sure either NZinAUS or Bass Crazy will show you their slips, they both ran 15's. They were 6 cylinder 5 speed manual EA's....
And carazy is correct, exactly...
Cheers.......... Tim

remember how much more a EF weighs then a EA, or even how much more a EB weighs than a EA
i did a 15.505 @90.12 mph with a stock EBXR6 134 000km, JMM exctractors and plugs, 2.5" exhaust, 16 degrees base timing and ulitmate, with a 50-60kg stereo on board - not bad for a near 1600kg car (not inc driver) that is supposed to do a 15.7 when brand new and stock...

Well, I'd be disappointed with that.
Considering my trap MPH supposedly means I can run 14.9s (was my first trip to the drags, and we had winds but those are excuses!) then spending all that cash on a cam and head work etc to gain .2 sec seems daft. You'd expect their own car to be the very best of their work.
To be honest, this just seems to confirm that the best thing people can do with an XR6 is get a good set of headers, do your air intake and be happy with that unless you want to go really crazy - if that means one of the low end Mock packages, or something else then so be it. The Tickford cam grind is quite good really. If I wanted more power, I'd be bolting on some forced induction next. If you've got a standard falcon engine, then perhaps do the cam, lifters but how much are you really gaining for the cost?
Ultimately, it's your own money spend it as you wish.
