ok my boss has requested that all us employees reduce our internet usage by approximately 1.5 gig per month - now everyone is saying that it is me using ford forums that is clocking up the usage bill!!!!
So what im wondering is, just how much is downloaded every time I surf the ford forums website - would it be enough to add up to 500mb or even 1Gig per month? I dont know much about this stuff unfortunately - is there anyway I can monitor / check how much im using as i browse?
I just find it hard to believe that me surfing FF for an hour or so each day adds up to that much downloaded!
I reckon my boss must be downloading sweedish porn or something :s6:

Easy ways to reduce download amount is to turn off avatars, turn off signatures, reduce page view to 10 or so posts etc etc. It's amazing how much you can reduce the load!

yep i will be turning off the avatars, but hadnt thought of the signatures and number of posts. I will do that too
you reckon just surfing FF would log up to 1gig though? Im just trying to work out if its me at fault!!!!

1 gig? Not a chance
You would probably chew through 50mg per month, on a bad day, so I wouldnt be overly concerned.
However, I would tell your work mates to stop playing Counter Strike and Quake 3 online, that can really chew up the bandwidth!
Also, tell the receptionist to stop downloading male porn using Kazza, and your CEO to stop listening to streaming radio :-)
Cheers

While on this subject can one find out what site one visits through a companies internet???
I don't think Fordforums.com will take too much interms of internet download mb wise. On the other hand downloading stuff like MP3'z that chews abit.

Yep, if you run a firewall, all connections can be tracked and logged

Maybe worth telling the boss to go to an internet plan where there is unlimited downloads and time! Mine is only for home use but Iprimus is around $74 per 3 months with this deal. Not sure how it works in a business situation

we are using telstra adsl - im not even sure that they have an unlimited plan. It would be very expensive if they did though id say. I think its a few hundred per month as it is...
thanks for the input guys - i reckon someone here might be downloading a few too many MP3s!

check out www.iinet.net.au Static IP ADSL, 4 gig up and down included, $160 per month, $80 for dynamic IP, 6 gig up and down. (And nope I dont work for an ISP so dont flame me! lol )
www.whirlpool.net.au anything you want to know about broadband, choice, prices, regional coverage etc, and invaluable tool.
And yep, just look around your office. Whoever is smiling, is probably the guilty party lol
