my speed limiter has somehow become inactive (don't know why), and as a result my car will now go beyond 18* (on private roads ). My question is: is going above this speed detrimental to the driveline of my car? Im sure there must be a reason for the limiter...what is it?

PS. this is for brief periods of time ie. 25 minutes, not hours at a time.
exceeding 180km/h sends the tailshaft into an unstable state.
the tailshaft bows like a skipping rope if rotating too fast.
basically slightly over 180 is ok, but going too far is not worth risking
also, i wouldn't be doing 180 for too long

oh ok, thanks. i had heard that before somewhere i think, just making sure. If the tailshaft shat itself at warp speed, could it catapult the car onto its roof?
My car is an auto ED, with standard GLi single spinner diff. Approx what rpm would she be doing between 180-200 (in 4th)?
(I only ask coz i have been living 5 hours from any major city, so travelling times are frustratingly long on painfully straight roads, on which you can travel for 1hr without seeing a single car sometimes)
What are the ratings for tires? I know Z rated tires are rated to a higher speed than say H, but what are the actual max speeds for each letter rating?
I dunno if this is true or not but I've heard that if the tailshaft breaks while driving at high speed it can fall down and hit the road and in the process flip the car over or else calve its way up through the floor. Does anyone know what actually happens? Also, would a tailshaft loop protect you from something like this happening?

I have also heard this.
A tail shaft loop would make things a bit safer, but I think it would still make a mess if it let go.
