I dont think the costs would outweigh the benefits. Its not as simple as simply hopping in a fast car and pursuing someone, there is an absolute tonne of Standard Opperation Proceedures to follow. Its sometimes hard to justify highway patrol using v8s at times. If its going that fast, they will task Air if they can. Otherwise, they just sit at the offramps and wait.
Also, Ive heard that some of the government fleet rates are so cheap that sometimes they can actually make a profit on the cars at sales time. A GT, in police hands, would probably depreciate faster. Also, you need to remember that Policemen are human too, and as such, they get jealous. I've actually heard that a lot of NSWHP were upset that their particular region/station etc were not, for instance, being issued with a Subaru WRX. Its all pretty much chinese whispers, but I could see it happening.
because xr6t's are just as quick if you dont care about a pooftenth of a second and that the fact that I dont think Ford would let them anyway. Do you really want the police driving GT's? Nothing against them but it would be the whole "ah falcons are crap because they are all taxis scenario again!"
FPV just would let it happen.....I hope.

The Police buy cars at fleet price without sales tax, then sell them on a taxed market so to speak, and yes they do make a profit. Thats another reason they stopped using V8 Commodore exec's, resale value !! It is far easier selling an SS at auction than it is an exec. You will also find that GT's attract a luxury sales tax on them, which is another reason, as manufacturers don't do fleet discounts on luxury cars they only do factory rebate deals sometimes on showroom stock
I just can't see any point why you would ? Bugger all performance increase for the money, you might as well ask why they aren't using ferarri's . . .
At the end of the day, the GT largely adds a lot of stuff that isn't remotely useful to police - leather, climate, etc etc etc.
I'm struggling with why they don't use 6t's . . . if they were going with something from FPV, I'd think they'd be better with the F6 anyhow (whenever it arrives).
dave, I know one of the HP guys who drove a wrx, while others might be jealous, I don't think he was that stoked with it as a car. At the end of the day, they required mods (i.e. had to change seats / seat rails etc) as well before they were suitable for cop use . . . These days, a 6t will perform same or better than a wrx anyway . . .
Too expensive and the fuel bill would be to high, thats why we wont see them on the road although they would look awesome on the roads, they would certainly have a mean and freightening look about them.
Cheers John

OK OK, thanks to those who just pointed out the pros and cons. I was just asking out of curiosity, I dont expect (or want) it to happen.
I still think having a few PR type cars, i.e. Pursuits and GT's in Police livery, would look really good though, Similar to what Vic. Police did with the GTO Coupe from Holden.
