Why is it that so many people seem to think that any car which is much more then a few years old is not worth anything?
If I had a dollar for each time I've heard someone say words to the effect of "it doesn't matter, it's an old car anyway", I could probably afford a couple more 'old' cars...
It doesn't seem to matter what sort of car it is, or what condition the car is in... Even if the car in question was a showroom condition GTHO, people will still have no respect for it, because "it's an old car"
Sorry, just had to get that off my chest...

I have more respect for old cars (especially in mint condition) than new cars. When me and my mates sit at a pub on Rundle St (Adelaides cruise strip) we love to see mint old skool muscle (even Holdens and Valiants) than some 180sx with a huge aluminium spoiler and full sick subwoofas. I drive both old (1970 Capri) and new(ish) ('96 Ghia) cars and love jumping back in the Capri becuause it feels so 'mechanical' compared to the smoothness of the EFI Ghia. You feel the secondaries open, you feel the gears crunching in etc. People who say it is old "why waste your money on its old?" are ignorant, just ignore them mate. They have never had the pleasure and never will.
Most people i know all say the same shit. I put a cd player in my escort and my mums cousin goes "gees waste of money putting it in this BOMB" and one time the door wouldnt close due to the fact she wasnt closing it properly but still she goes far out this BOMB doenst close good. Even my mate scratched my escort and i go wtf are you doin and he tells me who cares its old. One time some guy hit it and offerd my 50 bucks and goes just send it to the tip i was about to get some petrol and torch his car.
You just have to live with it there is to many F$#K heads in this world.

I must agree with all of the above.
As a driver of a now nearly 10 year old ED XR6, i see it all to often, drivers of newerAU/BA xr's look down their nose's at you as if to say, "get your old piece of crap out of my way", alot of the people driving these are just in it for the Name, and so the can say "i drive an XR_ , S_, HSV_, etc.
The funny thingis if it wasnt for the successof the older models(i use the XR6 as my example) their particular model probably would nt even be around today.
I am not sying its all of the drivers of the newer cars.
I get heaps of looks/smiles/points, still about my car, and i have even had alot of drivers of newer XR's give me the thumbs up, which i think is a bit of a complement.
the same goes for other makes, i respect all cars, yes there is alot of crappy old and new cars out their and nothing pee's me off more than people that drive any car and dont look after it, the newer the car the worse it get.
how many of us have seen the brand new $180,000odd, BMW with the lazy driver who doesnt have enough respect for his car to clean the now Black-with-brake-dust, alloy rims.
Yes i know i may have gone a little off track, but it all comes under the same heading, RESPECT.
Yeh people should have more respect for AU's and VT's.
Seriously though, if someone can keep an older vehicle in decent condition and it is all they can afford (or want to spend) then why not treat it with the same respect as a brand new BA or VY (actually who respects VY's anyway)

Not really far off track there. Strange how the series 1 AU XR6 seems to have somehow fallen into the "Oh, its just a series 1" catagory lately!
I have to say that anyone who can keep the paint and panels on any car more than 5 years old in mint condition has my respect!
No offence but having a mint condition BA really isnt a big deal, it should be mint, it's brand new! But keeping a car mint well after the warrenty and resale value have passed its expirey date is a tough job that deserves all the and in the world!
