laser to go

I was reading the new issue of car news and there was an article about the focus replacing the laser in 2004. Its got something to do with Ford wanting to become more individual and not share cars. All I can say is that its about bloody time!

Also Ive got a question, how big is the medium size car market in Australia?...Cos while they are brining the focus over, they can bring the mondeo with them as well. The new vectra is coming out soon isn't it?

I think that's great news for Ford Oz. It is about time the Focus was brought over so we can finaly enjoy a true Ford small-medium car.

I think you'll find the Medium size car market is getting smaller and smaller. The people who want a medium car are buying vehicles like the RAV4, CRV, Forester etc

The Mondeo would be nice but we'd be lucky to get it cheaper than $40k with the current exchange rate.

With the new Explorer we are getting it about the same price as the Yanks, if not cheaper.(when taking into account the exchange rate)

Ford have looked at bringing the Fcus in for a long time. I say it should happen right now and it would, but at an extreme loss. I think Ford OZ are clinging on hopes that by 2004 the OZ buck will be better and it would be profitably worth importing FOcus. I reckon in the mean time atleast try and get a few cosworth RS's.

I know it would be hard to do and will not work financily, although what could be better than complementing the new AV Falcon range with the Focus and Mondeo ranges to line up beside it in the showroom. This would bring huge attention to Ford and give its brand identity a huge lifting, as they are qualtity cars. I know its only a dream, but imagine all the POSITIVE hype that would surrond the blue oval.

Thumbs down

The major problem that Ford OZ faces with its medium & small car ranges is the lack of import credits; particularly in relation to Toyota & the Evil Empire. How do you think the GMH is able to flood the market with Barinas, Astra & Vectras, while Ford struggles to compete with superior European equipment.
Unless Ford OZ gets its export act together it will be forced to look at badge engineered vehicles and probably some pretty cheap badge engineered vehicles ah la the Festiva.
