So what was last weeks so called storm of the century in melbourne like.
I always miss stuff like this, dagnamit.
One of my mates was telling me an interesting story of him trying to get home after work in the middle of the storm. Overtaking people on the freeway at 40km/h (not the eastern, he does'nt have a boat) and aquaplaning through the rivers on the roads.
So was it realy that big or what? were any of you people on the road at the time?
I wasn't on the road, I was sleeping. We didn't get a lot of rain here in Greensborough, probably at most it was raining for 30 mins but I don't even think it was going that long here. At one point the lightning was pretty impressive with the sky being white and not getting a rest from the lightning flashes. I was woken up at about 1:00am due to the biggest clap of thunder I have ever heard, and I have heard some big ones before.
I know someone in Rosanna got flooded, and someone in Preston said the hail wasn't the size of golf balls, but the size of mandarins!!!
Would you like to change your name to Homer Junior? People can call you Hoju.
Was out in the city that night, in of all things a Mini ( oldie model too, '76). It was absolutely p***ing down , got to just before Brusnwick Rd on Royal prd. and there was cars stopped everywhere, the water was at least 2 foot deep!!. Thought screw it and drove through it at the speed of a snail... then we got to Sydney Rd.
I kid you not, there were wheelie bins floating down the road, boxes of litter and all sorts of crap, the water was covering the footpaths and lapping the doors of the businesses. Water was covering the wheels on the mini and half way up the door, 'lil bugger still kept going though!. Caught up to a police car that went past us earlier at the Shell servo on the corner of Bell st. and Sussex st. and they could'nt believe we were still going, almost p***ed 'emselves laughing.
That pic is awesome!
I live in Werribee and we had a lot of rain but thats about it. I work in greensborough tho and a few people werent in the next day as they were fixing storm damage. One guys mums garage wall fell down:( Oh and the SGT's mess roof leaked and it got flooded haha
I was at work at the airport last Tuesday day and night (literally, started 1045am, finished 3.30am Wed morning).
The storms started forming early afternoon, we watched the one that nailed Lilydale form, it just kept boiling up higher and higher, the crew coming in said it was painting very red on the radar (red is bad) and the tops were upwards of 40-50,000ft which is a huge cell for this part of the world.
I was stiil at work when the really big one came thru about midnight, was out on the tarmac working on a engine and there was just lightning everywhere out to the NW of the airport. I went to check the monitors in the office to see when our next flight was coming in and saw we had another thunderstorm alert, we got back on the tarmac nearly 2 hours later. (they vacate the tarmac with thunderstorms within 5 miles so no-one gets a spiky hairdo). We had no rain or hail at the airport except a brief shower about 1830.
