Australian motorists could soon be wearing protective headbands to guard against brain injury under plans by the Federal Government to reduce deaths on the road.

The Department of Transport has been investigating the use of foam headwear for use in cars and has produced basic prototypes.

Production of the headbands (shown in prototype form), the wearing of which may become compulsory, could begin by the end of 2002.

wasnt there talk a while ago about introducing 4 point seat belts? now I reckon that would be sweet. I like to be held in the seat properly.

Maybe a cheaper alternative would be to provide everyone with a high roll of cotton wool.

The general public could wrap themselves up in it for all purposes not just motoring protection.

Not only would it be less expensive then employing police officers to maintain driving order, it would also boost our wool industry!
