You have a NSW licence and you loose 3 points, you then move to VIC get a new licence (well your old licence number re-issued), do you then go back to 12 points, or do the 3 demerit points haunt you !!
Anyone know?

If you get an old Victorian license REISSUED the points on your other licese do NOT follow you! I know this for a fact as it just happened to me this year. I now have a clean 12 point Vic license (reissued from 10 years ago) AND a Qld License with 9 points sitting on it.
This only happens if they reissue an existing Vic license, not if they transfer your current license.
Original question was in relation to my wife's licence.
I bought a car on a NSW driver licence, and they automatically allocated me a VIC licence number, so then when I changed my licence to VIC, I go that number technically re-issued (i think i had 12 points before anyway) but I wonder if the same would apply - good possible loop hole/s when moving states to get your points back.

well points are now suppossed to follow you
even if you are driving in qld on your vic license, and you get caught, the points will be deducted from your vic license even tho you are in qld

Yes I expect that
I meant walking into vicroads and they cut up your NSW licence and give you the amount of time remaining on your re-issue VIC licence.
No since losing my licence while living in NSW through a few fines etc by not paying up and getting cancelled, then finally getting it back after being a good boy and paying up, I don't do anything wrong, if i got fined again my wife would kill me :0)

I first got my license in 1989 in Victoria. In 1993 I moved to Qld and was issued with a Qld license (and no, my naughty points did not follow me at that time as the would if I did the same now....computers were not linked in 1993). 10 years on I walk back into Vic roads to change back to a Victorian license. I paid for a 10 year license and was asked if I had ever held a Vic license before. I said yes and they tracked it to my last known address before moving to Qld. They then REISSUED this same license (same no, everything) to me. As it had sat dormant for 10 years it was clean of naughty points.:s6: Not only did they reissue it but they reissued it from the expirey date on my Qld license PLUS 10 years (hello 11.5 year license).
When I asked them what I should do with the Qld license they said what ever I want! So I still have it (with its naughty points still on it) AND I have my original Vic license, still nice and clean!
