Looking for Frank Gardner

I am looking to find Frank Gardner. A race car driver who started motorcycle racing at 16 years of age in 1949; and retired from open wheeled racing about 1972. He was born in Sydney, Australia in October 1932, attended Sydney Technical College and married in 1969. I am looking to obtain information pertaining to an Alan Mann race car and race team information from 1966. I tried the www.whitepages.com.au search pages, but there are to many poeple with the Gardner name to narrow the search.

confused

Pretty sure that Frank is based on the Gold Coast in Queensland these days. Last I heard he was still involved with BMW Australia's Driver Training.

You'll find the legendary Frank here http://www.performancedriving.com.au/pdcsrc/findus.htm

and a much under done story on him here: http://www51.gu.edu.au/mc_conf/Gardner.html

He's probabley better known in the UK as he spent a lot of his racing career there; racing a Comaro sometimes as I recall and won the British saloon car championship in 1967 and 68.

You own a GT40? You're lucky you can't see the shade of green I'm turning at the moment. I was lucky enough to see a 427 version being demonstrated at Lakeside raceway here in queensland with Australian driver Kevin Bartlett at the helm. Very exciting, very fast and a beatiful engine note. One of my dream cars, no risk

I just want to know how many more responses I have to post before I get an offer of a free GT40 ride. Pick me; Pick me!

Thumbs up Frank Gardner EXCELLENT RESPONSES

I do own a Ford GT40. It is the first Alan Mann GT 40 built by number. It is AM GT40/1 or AMR1. The car ran at 1966 Sebring as #25, and 1966 LeMans test days as #16; the sister car ran as #24 and #15 at the same events. My GT is currently wrecked and disassembled. I am in need of obtaining photos of the car as it was in 1966 for a proper restoration to be done. I am looking for any photos, but especially photo shots of the interior of the car and underbody shots of the engine, suspension, cooling and steering systems. My car had 3 white stripes across the nose. Pictures of either of the cars will work for my photo detail search. These 2 cars were the only aluminum bodied cars ever built and I need some help on this project. The sister car was purchased and raced by Paul Hawkins and was converted back to fiberglass. I am able to inspect the Paul Hawkins car, but several things have been changed. Of course I am going to be needing several parts along the way too. A picture of the car at LeMans is attached .

Hi Rex

Is your car the yellow #8 car on page 104 of John S Allen's "Ford GT 40" Book and described as XGT-1 or is it the mysterious "missing" XGT-2?

Not XGT-2

Unlike most GT 40 racecars, this car is and was always red and gold striped as the photo shows and is not XGT-2. The car has been known by several numbers;i.e. AM GT40/1 AMR1 AM1 AMGT1 . During the 1966 season the car ran with the Ford factory effort and of course directed by the Alan Mann race team. As far as rides, I get the first ride! If or when the car is completed this owner driver will be giving rides, riding time may be associated with how much help I might have recieved from that individual!!
