LTD and Territory to China

Didn't I completely miss this?

Go auto

"Interest (from Ford Motor China) was in both LWB sedan and Territory, so the interest was in the platform, because if you do the platform you can do whatever you want," Mr Gorman said.

So is that Falcon, LWB, utes and Territory to be made in china? Or China takes Territory and LWB, oz makes Falcon.. What about the "it can never be converted to LHD that Ford US keeps spurting out"...

"But it has to come from him (chairman and CEO of Ford China) and then we respond to that as the source, but thatís no different to what Holden does with its exports to the Middle East."

Interesting.. Will be interesting to see what comes of this. Holden is looking at producing Statesman's in Korea, and the LWB Ford have struggled for some time.

Is this the solution for the LWB models and not better cars?

I sure as hell hope that China never has a part in making Ford Australia products. You know how "good quality" most "Made In China" things are...

Don't panic too much mate, people used to say the same about goods manufactured in Japan too.

It is true that goods from Japan WERE crap, but they have turned their quality control around so much that they are rated very highly these days.

It would stand to reason that China will end up the same.

I have to agree though that most goods made in China stuff is crap, and is generally a cheap inferior copy of someone else's hard work.

I don't believe that Ford would be stupid enough to allow that to happen with their vehicles.

China incidentally, is probably the fastest growing country in the world with regards to catching up to, and even exceeding world standards with manufacturing.

I saw an article on the tele the other night about China, and the population figures made my teeth rattle.

There is so much opportunity over there for a manufacturer such as the Ford Motor Company it is just not funny.

They know this, and are starting to jump in before the others do.

It is also happening in Russia as well, as (I think it was RPO83) an article was posted here not long back.

Ed :)

Is this the same Ford that thought Taurus would replace Falcon? The same Ford that thought Aussie's didn't like V8s in 1984? The same Ford that... well you get the idea.

Re: LTD and Territory to China

I belive Buick in China are eyeing the Statesman, so perhaps we will see what happens when they sell that over there..

Still, I guess it completely tears apart the idea that Falcon can't ever be produced LHD atleast for certain markets.

Beats me why Ford OZ don't try breaking into India, RHD market and all..

Re: LTD and Territory to China

I can understand that china, like japan, will only go up in quality. However I would still prefer that Aussie Fords were made in Australia, by Australians with Australian Jobs...for Australians :)

(Though I understand conditions were not always rosey at the ford plant back in '73 when my car was made )

Re: LTD and Territory to China

Having seen the awful looking, 1970's design that passes for a limo in China there could well be a place where our LTD could better the single digit monthly sales it presently rakes in.

Re: LTD and Territory to China

The whole exercise is not about making aussie fords in China, it is about seeing what sort of reaction the LTD and Territory get to see if there is a viable export market over there.
