not having much to do with these discussions, i'm wondering if ford will make a manual box available on non xr barras. for example a 5.4 l ghia? this is something i think they have failed on since reintroducing the v8 back in '92. you want a manual you had to buy an xr8.

p.s i'm talking v8's here.

The reason for that is not to take away from XR and T series sales.. Which is totally stupid. They are genenerally totally diffrent buyers..

Ford and Holden should both be doing runs of say 500 Calias and Fairmont Ghia manuel V8's. Either at the start of finish of the series. These would become highly sort after collectors items, and resale would be very high.

Ford and holden should both look for ways of getting manuel tranmissions into second hand models. Why?

BECAUSE THEY ARE IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND! Which is why people are turning more and more to imports, they are not after autos generally, but manuels. The entire race predigree thing is destroyed when you can't find any manuel transimission second hand cars only slush boxes requiring a trans overhaul and people go where they can find something sporty, imports..

I've never bought a brand new car so I wouldn't know, so those of you who have, can you answer this?
Can you have a manual box fitted to a Fairmont/Fairlane as a factory option?
I understand that most people that would be purchasing these cars would probably just want an auto in them, but is it possible?

Looked at the Ford Website and there is no manual option on a Fairmont either as a I6 or V8

As far as i know thats a big fat no, I think it has been that way ever since about the EB Fairmonts on. I know of EA Fairmont Ghia Manuals and earlier models but have never heard of anything in the later series Fairmont/Fairlanes that came out manual from the factory.

The EA Ghia was available as a manual but sales were low - and there was no V8 in those days anyway.

I strongly agree with Iphido's comment that a limited run of manual cars should be made from time to time. BMW made a limited edition manual V8 540i back in the early '90s, and obviously it was a success.

I think a manual Ghia is a good concept - not all of us want the big wings, huge price tag and so forth associated with T-Series, and a manual could even enhance the traditional Ghia strengths (cruising ability, performance, comfort).
