I have been debating whether to keep spending money on my EF or not. Having shelled out for lowering, exhaust, audio etc I am pretty happy with it now. But..
I am so pissed off with the company that insures the EF right now. I rang them asked if putting an after market exhaust system on the car would raise my premium or excess. I was told no, you can do 3 mods to your car without any problems as long as you send in a reciept and have it done by a pro not yourself. So I got the exhaust done. I got the birds name down and her office number just in case something changed. Cool I thought, exhaust, lowering and mags that will do for now.
My how things change. I was informed a week ago that my excess has gone up $900 because the company was bought out and the policy had changed regarding mods. Game over for mods... If I add more mods the car will almost be uninsurable I am told. Even DBA Gold discs.... WTF The final straw was the car is insured at market value - i was told otherwise before.. So market value means I will get nothing for it if something happens..
I am locked in with this company until March next year as the car is under finance...
I am now considering buying a Series II AU Forte to play with. Why?
1. Cheap, dirt cheap. - example:
(dealer ad)
MAKE/MODEL: Ford Falcon AU II
YEAR: 2000
PRICE: $10,850.00
BODY: Sedan
EXTERIOR COLOUR: Grey
KM: 108,000
Series 1 AU fortes are even cheaper... they vary from $8500 - $15000
No idea why they have dropped that much because to me there is nothing wrong with them!? The styling is different but this car will be all go no show. Stockies, no kit no bullshit just a strong engine to blow away all the Holden wieners/ricers.
2. Low Km engine suitable for unrestircted mods (big ones not just the usual ones) Walkinshaw can give us a hand with his forced induction knowledge...
3. Series II Fortes had CD Player, Alarm and bullshit like that standard as Ford were trying to sweeten the deal for new buyers. Plus a few bugs had been ironed out since Series I.
4. My Ghia has done 200,000 now so internal mods are not really worth the money long term as the car will depreciate big time, plus mods will not be possible until next year at best... With the Forte I will pay cash so no finance, no bodgy insurance i will hunt down a decent company that are not scared of mods like adding DBA Gold brakes to help the car stop BETTER......thus avoiding a claim!
Sorry bout the essay I am just pissed at the moment with my insurance wankers.
In summary: Buy cheap AU, spend money that I saved on more power for engine!
