Microsoft admits flawed software

From the frontpage of slashdot.org

Quote:
guacamolefoo writes: "It was recently reported in eWeek that "A senior Microsoft Corp.
executive told a federal court last week that sharing information with competitors could
damage national security and even threaten the U.S. war effort in Afghanistan. He later
acknowledged that some Microsoft code was so flawed it could not be safely disclosed." (Emphasis
added.) The follow up from Microsoft is even better: As a result of the flaws, Microsoft has asked the court
to allow a "national security" carve-out from the requirement that any code or API's be made public.
Microsoft has therefore taken the position that their code is so bad that it must kept secret to keep people
from being killed by it. Windows - the Pinto of the 21st century."

You try writing an easy to use operating system that runs on top of an old out of date operating system that is also backwards compatible yet revolutionary at the same time and see how well it works....

I think they (MS) have done an admirable job considering the type of product they have been demanded for.

At least 2000/XP is a sole 32bit OS with multi threadings. Best one I've used yet.

Re: Microsoft admits flawed software

Personally I prefer Win95 to XP, and yes I do have both. I found XP to be hard to use, and it chewed up even more system resources than win95, hard as that is to believe.
All I can come up with is that either Microsoft prefers Intel to AMD processors, or XP really is as cumbersome as it seems. If they are writing software biased towards Intel/Celeron processors, isn't this kind of dumb, as AMD are not only cheaper, but handle graphics better - and lets face it, Windows IS a graphics-based program...

Intel are far more widely used in the area that counts....SERVERS, their Xeon chips are far more dominant than anything that AMD has (for now, until the 64 bit AMD chip arrives which HAS to succeed or bye bye AMD). Yes Windows is built "around" Intel but as mentioned before it is far more widely used. I have an AMD thunderbird chip running both windows and Gentoo linux. They seem to run ok but Linux seems to handle the processing much better. Anyway that my 2c
