Here is the deal. I buy a new computer with DVD ROM after having read somewhere that media player can play DVD's. Curl up in bed just before, wham in a DVD and now it reckons i need to download (and purchase) a decoder. WHAT A LOAD OF SHIT.
Im assuming this problem has been confronted my many people before, I've already gone looking for a cr@cked decoder...if anyone knows a easy fix please post something here or PM me

Windows media player 9 will play DVD's provided you have the right codecs and the program is up to date patch wise. WMP wouldn't play a DVD for me till very recently when it prompted me to update.
Look for a program called PowerDVD, its freeware I'm pretty sure. Also look for kLite (I think that's the name, or k something lite) codec pack, its got basically support for any conceivable video file.

Basically you need a codec for MPEG-2 playback. Once you have it installed, you should be able to use WMP for DVD playback. I personally use Power DVD, but that isn't freeware - the trial version is limited to 30 mins playback. Should be easy to get off Kazaa
