Driving in the city today (Sydney) i came across a Mini Cooper S cop car!! Yes folks, a mad little supercharged mini driven by a female copper (and probably loving it) down Pitt St.
I had NO IDEA that there was a mini cop car in the force.. but it makes sense kind of.. squeeze through traffic easier!
Wish i had a camera cos i was stopped at the lights next to it and got a real good look!
Hey, I think the mini you saw would have been this one. I saw it a few weeks ago on the road. It looks pretty good. Got to love these new Cooper S's. :s6:
Police hit the streets In a new Mini Cooper 9, May 2003
NSW Police have been given a new Mini Cooper to assist their community-based policing activities. BMW Group Australia handed the keys of the Mini Cooper S to the City Central Local Area Command two weeks ago. City Central Local Area Commander, Superintendent Gary Hodsdon, said that while the vehicle has police markings, it will not be used for day-to-day operational duties. “The Mini will be used by our Community Safety Team when visiting schools and businesses and attending neighbourhood meetings where crime prevention strategies are discussed,” Supt Hodsdon said. “The provision of the Mini means we now have a dedicated vehicle for the Community Safety Team, which makes the officers even more available to businesses and residents,” he said. “The community we serve is more far-reaching than just the Sydney CBD – it extends to Pyrmont, Darling Harbour and Ultimo. Our residential community is also fast-growing with the conversion of warehouses into apartment blocks. “Up to 10 police officers work in the Community Safety Team, which is responsible for liaising with domestic violence victims, young people and the large number of small owner-operators and multi-national companies in the city. “I would like to thank BMW Group Australia for their support in delivering the vehicle for use in the command. It will prove invaluable in helping us further develop successful relationships within the community,” he said NSW Police last used Mini Coopers in the 1960s and 1970s when a fleet of fully operational vehicles patrolled Sydney streets.
Its all just an advertisment for MINI. Rose Bay cop shop were running around with a Alfa Romeo a while back. Now ask yourself this question - whats the likelyhood that the western suburb's police stations would be donated such cars ?
the crew at Bondi Junction station get around in a nice Alfa 156 aswell....not sure if its the same one that hangs around Rose Bay but sure could be , after all they have to look stylish when on patrol in Double Bay...

I think Bondi have a 156, somewhere else has a 147, and City Central have the Mini, all used for things involving the word 'community'.
You know there's something very wrong with the world when NSW Police use Mini Cooper S's for community safety and Victoria Police use V6 Camrys as unmarked traffic cars.

Hornsby has been using unmarked magnas for HP quite a while now.
