Hey I was looking at die cast model cars on the net today and got to wondering: a 1/16 scale model is self explainatory as far as size goes, but what weight would that 1/16 model need to be in order to faithfully replicate the scaled down weight of the original car.
Initially one might think "Du-OH, just divide the real car weight by 16!" - but when you think about it I don't think that's right - and the sums back that up (ie. 2500kg car divided by 16 = a model about 20-something cm long that weighs 156kg - somehow I don't think that's right).
Does anyone know the actual formula for scaling down the actual mass/weight of something?? (is it squared? - ie. 2500kg divided by 16x16 = 9.7kg model??)
I should sit and think about this but it's easier to just post and see if someone knows.
Re: Model cars and some maths (lazy question, sorry)
A 1/16th model is 1/16th as long, 1/16th as wide and 1/16th as high, to retain scale it would be 1/(16*16*16)th i.e. 1/4096th of the mass.
1.825 tonne GT = 446 odd grams but it should max out at 16 km/h and do a 13-14 second ET on the 25m finishing at 6.5 MPH

Does that mean they need to be serviced every 1,000 km's 15,000/16 0r every and that the service should be 1/16th of the price as carried out by the ford dealer.

Just because you are wrong on this point does not mean that you are a
childish ignorant prick. You can show that in other ways if you need to.
