roll more camera madness, from west of the black stump

well, us lucky sandgropers are about to be hit with some more $peed camera$. seems like our beloved police mini$ter, the delightful michelle robert$ is concerned about the fact that approximately 40% of the 75000 cars that pass through the tunnel every day are exceeding the speed limit. most appear to be driving at about 90 in an 80 zone. not really the stuff of great crimes, but apparantly the police in wa have cleared all crimes, there are no ore happening, and it is time to get the motorist again.

what really irks the lovely michelle, is that some people have been clocked (dont know how...there are no cameras presently) doing 170kmh!! well, cant be me cos my speedo was reading only 160

strangely, the cheif copper was unavailable for comment today.

well, the result of the wonderful michelles initiative is that the government will take in approx $20000 per day. that is approx (in real round figures) $7mill per year. what a bonus!!! saving countless lives and making money.

i have 3 questions.

1. why is the police minister getting her knickers in a knot over this issue when the tunnel is one of the safest stretches of road in WA? there have been two accidents that have required an ambulance, no major pile ups and no deaths. this is despite the fact that 75 million cars have passed through the tunnel. pretty good IMHO.

2. given the above, why isnt the minister for police targetting some of the country roads where most of WA's fatalaties occur? is it because it is too hard?

3. what is the extra money going to be spent on? $7 mill is not an insignificant sum. surely there are plans to spend the cash somewhere. maybe some new elastic for michelles knickers so she cant get them bunched up again. maybe our beloved elected representatives in parliament are due another pay rise. who knows?

anyway, the whoel thing stinks of money grabbing. it always does, but this time it is more blatant than others. Aussie Pete, if you could PM me, I wuold be eternally grateful.

They'll probably use the money to buy more cameras. They gotta keep the cash cow rolling. How else can the pollies afford thier pay rises.

Hey Rollin, that is probably illegal, but what a bloody good idea.

Then they might have to put in cameras to watch the cameras!

Speed cameras are nothing but revenue raising tax collectors.
If speed cameras lower the road toll ? why is W.A.s road toll 3 times higher than the same time last year ?
The state with unrestricted speed limits , NT, has the lowest road toll in the country.
It would be good to see the tax collecting cameras used as originally intended. OR the British way of using them.
1..They are painted fluro yellow.
2..A warning sign clearly placed where thay are situated. half mile in city and 1 mile in country.
Not like here where the sign is after the camera, leaning against a fence ,tree etc.

what a crock. Instead of targetting the speeding drivers (which, IMO, aren't comitting a crime - the limit should be 110km/h through there), they should be targetting the drivers that insist on doing 60ks through there - Slow drivers through the tunnel pose a greater risk than speeding drivers. I'd hazard a guess that with either of those drivers where something went wrong, they were probably doing something stupid for it to occur.

IF the cameras go up, it'll be Very hard to turn down a game of 30km/h drive-by paintballing, lol!

Good call disco !
I was heading back home from Nth Coast on Sunday this cock#^er in a 4wd was doing 70 in a 100 zone with no more than 22 odd cars stuck up his ass wanting to pass , he wouldnt even move over, then a guy towing a trailer (full ) decided he had enough and overtook on double lines !
Lucky noone coming around the corner but when he passed the 4wd he cut him bad then the guy in the trailer decided he too would be a wanker when the 4wd turned off and sat on 70 km! cant win.

Tongue

One question...... Why speed? :s6:

For those that get caught speeding in designated speed camera areas, I say, you are stupid! Maybe the warning signs need to have flashing lights? I have whinged before about cameras too, but I get caught and I cop what I get. In the end, if you don't want to get caught, there is one simple solution, don't speed! If people should be complaining about government revenue raising, lets take a look at gambling hey? No different, you play the game, you take the risks.
