OK hippies, this is what you have all been waiting for. It's a fully schick moite tacho for your CPU. I scanned in this article from the latest Atomic magazine.
"Due to the similarities between PC case modding and Hot rodding"
HMMMM, that explains the P2 486mhz that tried to race me online the other day. He nearly had me too until I hit the turbo button on the case and left him for dead. I had always wondered what that button did.

What a great idea? Do you get the sounds too??? The sound of a stroked Windsow at WOT when the computer scrolls down a page in Word! Or the soft burble while the screensaver is running... where do I get one!

Maaaaaaate, no Tuuuurbo button here mate, just 1800+Mhz of raw AMD power here. Boot her up and she'll do a 25sec pass to loading XP. Sickmate.

Well, my AMD Athlon 1600XP is overclocked to 1533MHz, making it an AMD 1800 - I'll 'ave ya! And my HDD has a redline of 7200RPM! But, I'm weighed down by Win98, so it'll be close!
:-)

Let me just say that the 10,000 RPM SCSI ownz j00!!!
Can someone please explain to me the false advertising in the Athlon chips? If it's marketed and labelled as "1600" or "1800" then why the hell doesn't it run at that speed? Just because it's the equivalent of an Intel chip running at that labelled speed is not good enough IMO.
When I first read this...

...I thought WTF until I remembered that AMD don't know how to label their chips.
/rant
Having said that when I buy my own PC one day it will probably be an Athlon! :s3
/hypocrisy
As for the numbering, well, if they called an Athlon XP1600 a 1400, it will look slower again - it is simply marketing but, it is not false marketing (actually it is conservative, really)! The overclocked 1600 outpaces 1.8GHz Intels, according to PCMark in all areas. But, it falls slightly short of the 2GHz intel. So, for a 1539.8MHz clock, it isn't doing bad outdoing 1.8GHz PentiumIVs! In it's non-overclocked guise, it was outpacing 1.6GHz Intels, which is what the 1600 is supposed to represent, even though it is running at 1400MHz.
Whichever way you look at it, all these processors are doing about one-and-a-half thousand million things per second - not bad, I say!
I could do with an intercooler - as my CPU is currently running at 54degC in 24degC room. Cooler thermostat? :-)
