I heard in yesterdays news that the WA government want to start leasing/renting personal plates to citizens on a yearly basis instead of us purchasing them outright.
They are set to make millions of dollars every year.Is there anything the government wont do to make money.
NSW already has this system, and has been in place for as long as I can recall, I think it is 300-600 a year to keep personal plates, (I am sure it is 600 just cant remember).
So hows that for revenue.

I think it stinks, the Government will always turn to the motorist to increase the States bank balance, and targeting only personalized plates is an easy way of not upsetting the majority.

Shit i thought we were going to be the first.
Also id like to know for the people including myself that already have private plates whats instore for us???
I cant believe its $600 (or is it $300?) in NSW per year for a personal plate!
And what a coincidence, the standard NSW plates are yellow, virtually forcing anyone who wants their car to look good to invest in a personal plate....
In NSW, its only fully customised plates that are billed on a yearly basis. I.E. "1SIKWRX" is a yearly billed plate, while AXR-850 ( in black / yellow ) is fine.
We also have the slimline in a variety of formats, which again, as long as you stay within the normal format, doesn't attract the yearly charge. . . . ( I personally run black on white slimlines in the AB-123 format ).
White on Black "Personal Plates" ( with your initials etc ), are also a one off fee. . .
There are still heaps of options for interesting plates that don't cost much, as long as your creative :)
yeah i was after the plates
