"Victorian motorists will pay an extra $17 to register their cars from July 1 this year.

The cost of motor vehicle registration will then increase every year linked to inflation.

This is the first rise in registration fees since 1994 and Victorian Transport Minister Peter Batchelor says they will still be the lowest in Australia.

Mr Batchelor says the government will raise $60 million a year over the next four years as a result of the fee increase."

How much do people pay in other states? This increase will mean I'll be paying around $502 in late July(bastards). I heard on the radio before that they reckon it's still amongst the lowest rates in Australia? Apparently the money is going to be spent on roads in country Vic to address disproportionate death rates amongst other things.

NSW rego is mega expensive. The highest taxed state in the country.

$339 for rego.
$427 for CTP
$766 in total.

IF I could get rego for $502 I'd be laughing.

$17 bucks extra, I just registered my other car in NSW and it stinks as above around $750 and its the same in QLD

Yes,

Just put 2 cars on the road in the last 2 months in NSW for the princely sum of $3500.

Thats rego and comprehensive isnurance which is also an absolute joke in Sydney, I'm over 30 as well.

It's just not really worth owning a V8 anymore or anything other than a bog stock sedan/ute/wagon. You really pay a premium price and it's starting to hurt...

$427 for a ctp well thats about right
last time i got rego on a car i only pain around $250 not sure on the amount but it was above $200 and less than $300
