Todays Drive section in The Age double spread talks about the "australian-ness" of our big 4 cars with no surprises to Falcon winning this ...bigger surprise (or not ) was Holden refusing to stake a percentage on the Commodore...a case of "football, meat pies, kangaroos and not so ozzie Holden cars..."
No brainer that one. The Falcon is basically completely developed right here (with the V8 geing a major exception). As for the Holden, it's based on US and European parts from the ground up!

but the point being is that ford provides the MOST amount of badly needed jobs of the 4. and that ford helps more in building Australias economy. the more money in Australia the better.
Both GMH and Ford is a yank company the name "Ford" Is yank the name Falcon is "Yank" Just that the Falcon name just stayed in Australia when the US dropped it. I dunno how many times I have picked up an Aussie owned product with "Made in China" on the tag or something. Hardly anything is 100% Aussie.

I don't know if Ford do actually employ more people than GMH here in Oz. With the number of cars GMH build they may actually provide more jobs than Ford. I'd love to be proven wrong though.

Neither Falcon or Commodore would still be running if they were left to be true Australian car's and left to fend for themselves, it's Big daddy that keep's them both going which is the world wide resources both company's have, Ford and GMH, so really as long as we design our car's here and build them for Australian condition's, it doesn't really matter to me, neither will be true Aussie vehicle's.

I too am pro competition. The Australian name will influence my decision, but what better value for money can you get when it comes to purchasing a Ford.
