Ok, I suggested to the administrators earlier to have a forum where we can talk about accidents, tickets, and other problems that involve our cars and maybe legal matters that go with the territory. I know this is a sad subject and noone wants to hear about it or talk about it, but if we give these issues a little attention and if we think about them maybe we can avoid expensive tickets, losing our license, or God forbid our cars. I dont know if this forum will work or not, but thanx goes out to the administrators for giving it a chance at least.
Anyways, at the same time as this forum started, I just wrecked my yellow '93 Probe GT. Thats what gave me the idea to suggest this forum.
I just bought the car not so long ago, and since I already had a red 94 PGT I was planning on keeping both probes; one for daily driver and the other one for show (well the plan changed many times...). The yellow 93 had supra style spoiler, 17" primax rims, Focuz exhaust w/ 2.5" custom piping and catco high-flo cat, HotShot intake w/K&N filter, remote starter, moonroof, and a buncha MOMO stuff inside. I already had H&R lowering springs waiting to be installed and the car was going to get an FX Design combat body kit with a fresh paintjob in a couple of weeks. I was in the process of putting a lot of work into the car when one night a bus decided to go through a red light.
I was standing at an intersection waiting for the light to turn green and once it did I started to go. It was dark and I didnt see the city bus from the left and as I entered the intersection I saw something white in front of me, hit the brakes real quick and than all I saw was the airbag in my face for a second. I hit the front wheel of the bus head on and since the bus was speeding and couldnt stop till about a hallf a block later he took the entire front of my car. I was lucky to escape with a sore knee and slight back injuries (wasnt wearing my seatbelt), the witnesses on the street told me later they all thought I was dead in there. Thank God the airbag worked perfectly and I hit the brakes the last second, cuz the cops told me if it was only about 8 inches further towards me I woulda died for sure.
Anyways, it turned out the next day when I went to my insurance company (after picking up the accident report that had witnesses stating the bus went through red), I was told by my broker that my insurance was cancelled about two weeks prior to the accident. I dont wanna get into it cuz this post is waaay too long as it is, bottom line I got screwed by my insurance company, they never sent me a cancellation notice and canceled my policy when THEY owed ME $ for an overpayment. They dont reinstate once its cancelled I was told numerous times and looks like Im fighting a hopeless battle. Its ironic that I didnt cause any damage to the bus, and it wasnt my fault so my insurance co wasnt responsible for anything anyways. But now that I didnt have insurance on the car at the time of the accident, I dont have a case against the city, I wont be compensated for my car or the injuries. The lawyer said I had a very good case but the insurance co screwed me over.
I just had the car towed home today, its on my driveway now, Im trying to figure out what to do with it. 02/19/01 was a sad day to me... But reading this maybe you guys will try to be safer out there.
