I went to Perth on the weekend and was fortunate enough to catch the new set of lights on Karel Ave, right next to a new SS manual, there was hardly any traffic on the road and the road is straight, looked over and Knew it was on! even my girlfriend said "Ok, have a go at that"
I dialed up about 3000rpm, then as the lights turned green dropped the clutch, slight wheel slippage but as close to the perfect launch as anyone would wish for. The SS was quick to jump also, although perhaps he wasnt showing the SS's clutch the amount of abuse I was happy to show the XR's.
Was about half a car length ahead by this stage and he wasnt making a cm on me or me him, I grab second at about 5800rpm, the perfect change (with a gearbox not real happy to do things in a hurry), things remain about the same for a second, then away it goes, the XR obviously not able to turn the cogs in 2nd gear anything like the big Chev.
Result!! Smoked, Wasted, Dusted by 1 x Red VY SS sedan.
Rematch next time with the snail attached.

Ah you got balls BOF, good on you though. Did you expect the XR6 to give it a better run ?
As AP would say needs 2 more cyclinders lol
Not sure what I expected really, although I didnt expect to beat him.
If you want to tackle a GEN3 and win you would want to have a pretty serious tool to do so.

I took on a few Gen3s in my 5.0 AU and won to 80km/h, but then they just pulled away! They are pretty awesome motors (even if some of them do use a bit of oil).
BOF, It will be funny if you run into that car when you get the snail - he'll think it's the same car and will be left wondering until he sees the 'Turbo' badge on the boot (unless you remove it, of course).

Always good to read your threads BOF.
I think you done well to do as good as you did against the SS.
Can't wait for a rematch when you get the turbo!!.
Maybe you could do a couple of mild mods to
.....BYE BYE SS...
As long as the other driver can't drive the SS to it limits, the auto XR6T will win, buy a fair bit too!!
If I was old enough now I'd have an auto XR6T with the uni chip upgrade and pop the turbo badge of the boot. That would be it. And boy would it be fun keeping up with modidied Gen3's!
Had a go at a red VX SS at the lights last week in my XR8. There was a chick driving it so I thought she wouldn't try to go me but to my suprise she did. Pulled a car length on her to 100 then I backed off to bask in the glory. I have been hanging to run a Gen3 since I got my XR8. At least she got to hear what a real V8 should sound like, not a vacuum cleaner sound like the usual Gen3.
I ran a VX SS on La Trobe terrace one night. Ive got EL XR6 Manual. This SS was auto. We were at the lights, I look over at him and he nodded. He stalled up the big Chev and I revved my HAD before dumping her at 2500rpm. He got the jump on me (which didnt supprise me atall) and was a car length ahead before i flat changed at 60km. He gained another half car length after I changed and from about 80km it was all over red rover.

I got a manual Turbo ute and ran a mates red auto VX SS ute with the exhaust done. He was claiming about an extra 10 - 15 kW's. He got a slight jump as i bogged down slightly but once the snail started spooling, by the time the ton came up i had got a little more than a car length up on him.
