Need help with info on external CD Writer

Hi,

I am hoping I can get some help. I have a laptop and I am looking for an external CD writer, mainly for saving photo's from the digital camera. I have been looking around and I am getting mixed advice. From what I understand I have three options, buy one that fits into my interchangeable CD-rom /floppy drive, which from the prices I have is way over what I want to spend, buy an external drive or buy an internal drive that fits into a case, so basically the same as an external drive, I am not sure what the differences would be if any.

What I need is some advice on decent brands, I am not wanting to spend a great deal of money, but looking for something reliable. Any suggestions, or advice on things I should be looking for, especially with respect to the external V's internal in a case?

Go and pick the brains of Harvey Norman staff, then shop around for prices.

you can always leave your laptop at home and carry a battery powered CD burner like this:

Re: Need help with info on external CD Writer

I have an Iomega that plugs into the USB port. We have had no problems burning pictures and music through it. I think it cost us under $300 from Dick Smith about two years ago. I've noticed they are on special from time to time.

We looked into a burner and putting it into a case or in the machine itself and while the burner it cheaper by the time you pay for the case, installation, cabling etc it was almost line ball to go with the Iomega unit. With Iomega I was also more comfortable with warranty issues than if I went to the corner PC shop.

PM me if you want more info on the unit that we have.

We had a Iomega in a work situation that got A LOT of use... it ended up making up a lot of coasters... Sony makes some external USB drives that seemed to work ok, though.

Try www.gamedude.com.au .....usually have exceptional prices.

Internal in a case is exactly the same as an external in a case only they already stuck it in the case before you got it.

Gamedude have USB external cases cheap and cheap burners. Can't go wrong.

or www.digitalstar.com.au
