I thought the camry looks better than its predecessor, looks more classy than the last, and they've also added a bit more aggressive to the overall look of it.
You're right about the VY looking worse than the VX, but hey, holden had to fail some time didn't they?
I dont think that all cars are getting worse, some company's just have bad spots. For example? AU Falcon.
Car design is a very hit-and-miss affair. Its really hard for a car to improve on the looks of a popular previous model (eg WRX) but very easy to screw it up.
I thought the VT was such a clean car, easily one of the bigger reasons why it was such a big hit, but then VX came along and it looked alot fussier and the VY is downright fugly...............
The Camry will always be a tryhard car...........
This new one might look a little better, but its still a washing machine on wheels.
Perhaps Toyota should stop building them in Australia, and give us something we might actually enjoy driving driving, like Toyota Chasers :-)
The VY Calais looks pretty nice, would pick one over the previous VT/VX run, same for the Berlina and SS. The HSV's are a bit overdone though, give me a VTII Senator anyday!!

- For example the new Commodore looks much worse than the VX.
- The new Camry is really awful (even thought Toyota CEO said "We don't want the new Camry to look like whitegoods on wheels" - it does !)
- The new Celica is terrible compared to it's lovely predecessors.
- The new Subaru Imreza is still ugly! - even though the journos say it looks a bit better !?!?
The list goes on....
It's not hard to look better than the AU in most models besides the XR and the T series, especially the T3... but personally, apart from the front of the XT and the XR in the BA, the rest of the car doesn't do much for me.
From front to 45deg front it looks great.. from the side it looks plain, from the rear it looks exceptionally plain, back to the front, horn. Don't know what it is, but when you walk from the front to the side of the car it's like you're looking at 2 different cars.
The T3 AU's looked aggressive no matter what angle and the rear wing squared up the droopy ends and really set it off, I doubt I'll feel that way about the series 1 BA's. If you're looking at it at any angle that doesn't show the front it just looks plain to me.

Love the VTII Senators, but those insurance premiums.. that's why I'm not driving one today...
