It wasn't exactly an impulse buy, but I made damn sure I snapped up this car before I changed my mind and blew more money on the EA.

Basically I have been wanting a cheap/economical daily driver for some time, and with the funding of my credit card and a bit of bargain-hunting, I decided on the KF Laser S. It looks like I found a good value example - it was the first one I looked at and I had no need to shop around any further. I just brought it home this afternoon.
A bit about the KF for anyone who is interested - this shape was the last of the Australian-built Lasers, running from '90 to '94. The base model L was a fleet-special lacking even a radio; the GL had the basics but retained the 1.6 carby; the S (like mine) adds 4 wheel discs, a 1.8 SOHC 16 valve EFi and features like front map lights, and there was a 1.8 Ghia, sporty DOHC TX3 (3 door) and later a turbo 4WD version. The engines are Mazda derived and the body style was used in the US too. In fact, the slightly elongated rear styling was a result of the 'exploding Pinto' dramas in the US.
I was after a manual, but this automatic example for just $2200 all up (inc RWC etc) was fully optioned with TX3-style alloys, air con and power steering. I didn't even bother to haggle... it's a great price. The only weakness is the paintwork which I'll have to look into.
Best of all, future EA mods no longer need to be compromised to make it a reasonable thing to drive... first on the list is the wildest cam possible, followed by a full exhaust...
PS please note the pic was taken before I gave it a good wash.
