Today in Victoria, a large meeting took place involving many in FoMoCo, from Geoff, to one of the Directors, some bloke in marketing from the states, yet to ascertain his name. Also present were the dealers........at least some of the biggies. I am not entirely sure of the topics of dicussion, but can only speculate it was a war meeting.........working out new strategies to take the fight back at Holden...........hopefully gain the initiative.
If anyone hears anything let me know, don't of course post any of the actual guts of the meeting here though.......
It was'nt a war meeting. A couple of business people I know who own a Ford Dealership in Sydney were to attend (bit like an AGM) and in part it has to do with the new restructuring of Ford Dealers, and Dealerships.
oic, surely though a little more than a agm, apparently quite a few of Fords middle management were also awol today, sounds perhaps a little more than an agm. Or do they always attend?
Not sure on that, but what happened was all Ford Dealers were asked to band together in order to survive. Instead of twenty dealers trying to compete against each other, they formed a large conglomerate with a dealer principal from each large dealership being placed on a central board. That way the big guys can help prop up the little guys. I know my mate banded with approximately 4-5 other dealers to form XYZ Group. This whole affair started at the Ford helm some 12 months ago, and is being carefully watched by Ford Management, including G.P and the likes.

Yeah, aware of that, like in WA........good ideal, some of the Melbourne Dealers are in need of a good clean up, their service, attitude, levels of understanding and competativenss all suck.
I know he is in Mel at the moment for a meeting with Ford, but like I said with an AGM, they could be point of order No 20. you may be right there may well be a squabble going on. I know for a fact G.P has stated he wants to concentrate more on marketing and getting in touch with the public, so who knows what else is on the agenda. Geoff may have the ol steel shoe on, ready to insert some enthusiasm in the dead wood. Or maybe replace some dead wood.
Holden were going to go down the same line as Ford with the RJV but decided it wouldn't work.
Some Ford dealers up in Brisbane hate the RJV idea and one of the owners said that it was a stupid idea that Nasser came up with and has made Australia the mule. He said no matter how hard you try to say that you have a better deal than another Ford dealer they will always suspect collusion.

My understanding is RJV has been operating in the USA too.
I think Saturn type sales principles would work too. Set price. No discounts. Make list price a real price. That way you don't have to go through the wanking dealer thing of price squabbles.
