since top gear died in the arse when clarkson took over, a new show, called 5th gear has appeared on the lifestyle channel. saw it for the first time tonight. it has the old cast of top gear...tiff, quentin and the delightful vicki (a cute girl who gets to drive the best cars and can drive better than most blokes!!!! who wouldnt?).
and it is more like the old top gear used to be. instead of the cars appearing as sidekicks to clarkson, the presenters are second to the cars. i like clarkson, but cannot stand the new top gear, and he just isnt as funny as he thinks he is.
if you get a chance, 8pm friday eastern time, lifestyle channel. top stuff.

rsgerry, I agree with everything you say about the new Top Gear. It is funny but that's not what TG is all about.
So, it's on Friday nights then?
I love watching what Tiff does with those cars, and Vicki, mmm...
Milo, I think Danny will be interested in that Pulsar!

I agree regerry. The new Top Gear is rubbish, in comparison to the old TG. Clarkson does have his moments (I recall a great comment about the Subaru Liberty a few years ago "If you really need a 4x4 - get a 4x4. If you really need a boxer engine - get a life" hehe) however in the current series of TG he is trying to be a comedian with every sentence and it just becomes tiresome and boring. I also don't like the format and layout of TG now.
5th gear, on the other hand, is great. I was hoping that a TV network would pick it up in Australia. It is, as everyone here as said, basically the old Top Gear. Great to finally see it on Aussie TV. Well-done Lifestyle channel!
Also, for those of you that saw the program on Friday I loved the T-shirt of the person (sorry I didn't catch his name) driving BMW 7 series. It was a plain black t-shirt with the words "DSC - OFF" LOL damn right. pffft Dynamic Stability Control - who needs it :s6:

There is a automotive program called "Auto Motor Sport TV"
that comes from German DW TV and is broadcast a couple times a week. Its worth a look if you have good UHF reception.
Here is what's on this week:
Quote:
Comparison Test: The Volvo XC90 – Mercedes ML 320 – VW Touareg
Report: The longest sound barrier in Germany
Drive Report: The Opel Meriva
Technology: No more protective wax for cars – Audi’s new spray-on coating

wtf, awd is alot safer than rwd or fwd, not to say i love rwd cars but awd is diffrent to 4wd's its more competant handleing and puts the power to the ground more effectivly.
boxter engines?? WTF do porsche use them then?? because they have low NVH levels noise harshness vibration. once again i love my half dozen but there is nothing wrong with a boxter engine and certainly nothign wrong with AWD, the forgoton liberty is the RS ud be suprised when one gives a XR6T a run for its money and that is 10yo technology.......
not good reporting i dont believe

UNR8D: I didn't mean to offend. That comment I quoted is just a classic example of Clarkson - he likes to be controversial. I don’t always agree with his comments and I don’t necessary agree with this comment he made on the Subaru Liberty. It is just an example of the way he talks about cars. If he likes them, he goes on and on about them. However if he dislikes them he doesn’t hold back and depending on your point of view his negative comments usually turn out to be humorous or offensive. I.E the comment on the Subaru Liberty. Another example is his ‘hammering’ of the current Vauxhall Astra when he first drove it. G.M were not impressed and even tried to sue him over his comments!
Another funny Clarkson comment that comes to my head is one on the current BMW 318i “Its lead free, its alcohol free, its like meat free beef Its a BMW with all the goodness taken out - I have driven more exciting golf buggies”. Clarkson’s aim is to be entertaining and really, you have to take his comments with a pinch of salt. There are many comments over the years I have heard from him that I don’t agree with. However there are also plenty that have made me laugh.
His comment on the Subaru Liberty isn’t a criticism of 4wd in general, nor is it a criticism of boxer engines. It is simply saying that all the Subaru Liberty has (remember we are talking the bottom of the range here – not the exciting ones) over the ‘rest of the pack’ (at the time he was testing about 20 cars to come up with his best family car) is that it has a boxer engine and 4wd.

Yeah no doubt, Subaru's are bloody good cars. As good as the WRX's are, I have to say that my current favorite in the line up is the B4. Not a bad stealth mobile, not too bad at all! :s6:
Also, getting back on Topic, 5th Gear is not only on at 8pm on Friday. I just found out it's also on at 5pm on Saturday's as well. (Lifestyle Channel)
