I just read something on the
www.fordracing.com web site in the performance parts section. There is a mustang in there they call the FR500 (I think) which they have put a hole heap of performance parts in to including the t56 and the like.
However, what caught my eye was they mentioned that the 4.6liter was now a 5.0liter. I remember off BON that they were talking about making a 5.0liter modular motor. on this site the FR500 has had a new spray bore technology applied. Which ment the block was bored and they use this technology to coat the bore. On my calculations the bore of the 4.6 liter would have gone from 90mm to 94 to get this increase in displacement. They made no metion of a stroker crank at all. So using this increase bore size and applying it to the 5.4 litre block which has a taller deck height and using the standard 5.4 liter stroke the capacity would be nearly 5.9 liters.
Maybe ford could be looking to bring back both 5.0liter and 5.8liter V8's into their line up. I gues could this mean a translation of the this motor into our AV's???????
By the way the motor put out 415hp (311kW) and 365ft/lb of torque. I think that it is around 500 to 550nM (don't quote me on that though)
I like the sound of that 5.0litre. Image what the comparable 5.8 would be like.
THere was also a huge intake with twin 80mm throtle boddies and twin 70mm air flow sensors.
