Im thinking of buying a second hand ED Engine, buying a book about the engine, striping it down and totally rebuilding it with all power enhancing parts. And in 4 or so years putting it into and XE, XD or XF.
Could someone list all the part I would need to totally work the internals of the engine and the things I can do to it (ONLY N/A).
How much would it cost for a second hand ED 4.0L??? How much would I be looking at making this a internal monster???
dude... you gotta come into mIRC #eseries channel one night. You could pick up an ED engine fairly cheap with high k's $500??. That probably wouldn't be an issue if you are going to rebuild the whole thing. Why would you put it in an XE, XD or XF.. why not the EA??
not knowing much about performance parts i would say if your "gonna totally work the internals" then change everything to performance parts...if you want a beast then why only do half the job?? secondhand engine from th wrecker wouldnt cost heaps. $5-800 for one still running.

ya sounds good, do you think i would be able to do most of the rebuilding in my garage, like do the piston etc need to be at certain hights etc spose i will come to that later, is there a book i can buy on ford straight 6 4L engines
how extreme do yoy want to go and how much money do you want to spend? the most you could do at home is clean the parts and then assemble the engine providing you got a torque rench. the rest will have to be recoed in a engine recoditioning shop or new parts are bought.

You can't do at home:
Decking the block.
Facing the head.
Boring.
Grinding the crank.
Balncing the engine.
Everything else is just assembly work. If you have a die grinder you can try porting your own head, but I suggest you leave that to the pros.
Do you want bigger valves?
You'll want higher compression pistons.
A cam.
New timing chain.
New bearings.
Strip and check the oil pump.
Gasket set and head bolts.
Clean the block well; perhaps even an acid bath.
Most of the work you do to a motor will be to the head. I suggest you use an AU motor - it already has bigger valves, a better conrod angle, and apparently you can take more meat out of these heads than any of the E-series range. Also a better rocker ratio.
Oh and a stud girdle as stock.

Unsure. I'm sticking with the AU head as the guy who told me I know usually knows his suttf Also, the AU head uses mucho better springs so I won't have to pay extra to do those :s5:
