New recall for AUI/II/II's

Hi all,

Just sharing for those that aren't registered with Ford:

Recall Number: RCMC252B

... valued owner of AUI/II/III Ford Falcon ... to let you know that we have developed an upgrade for the cooling system of your car that will improve engine cooling performance and the service life of your cooling system.

Blah, blah, contact your Authorised Ford Dealer ASAP ... free of charge...

Pity I'm selling mine the day after tomorrow! 0830! Woohoo!

Simon....

My olds got that one today as well. Rang me to see if i also got one, but told them i already had the work done at the last service. So then they asked me why I didn't tell them about these problems before they bought the car!

I think it's the recall that was talked about before, in that they drill inside the thermostate so when it's cold radiator fluid still flows to the radiator there for preventing teh radiator from getting a rush of hot radiator fluids that shortens the life of the radiator.

As well as that on the regular models (except XR) I've heard they bend the top of the radiator to allow more cooling. (Sounds like a dodgy fix to me).

I've got this recall done on my 30k service.

It's not a recall. It's a customer campaign. Recall is a safety issue mandated by the government.

AP - that may be true, but if Ford have referred to it as a recall, then so should we! (See first post)

Yes the recall was talked about before. It is nothing new atall. You're pretty much on the money, there is a new thermostat Oring used and a 2.5mm hole drilled in the thermostat. You will find that cars that have had this probably have some kind if marking to identify that this "cooling system upgrade" has been performed. Don't know about other dealerships, but at Rex Gorells we spray one of the thermostat housing bolts orange. Have they done this on your's?

Also with the bending its actually on the A/C condensor where the top of the lip is bent down as to allow more air to travel past and through onto the radiator. This isnt limited to regular models. Normal models we take the front grille off as to have access with a big flat blade screw driver, but on XR's we use a proper ford issued tool which has the right bending that allows it to fit between the grille.

My AU1 XR8 had this fixed last service (6 months ago) not sure about the AC condenser lip thing, is it obvious? will look tomorrow. Cobra do you work at Rex Gorells? my car was purchased new from them (I'm the 2nd owner) and wanting to know if you could do me a favour. If it's OK I'll pm you.

I've got the letter and I don't see the word 'recall' on it.
