Re: Nice area of Sydney.

You can tell a Sydney suburb is nice when you realise you cant afford it. Mind you some of the shit-holes are less than affordable too.

Depends what your looking for, Sydney has a lot to offer and lots of variety.

Re: Nice area of Sydney.

i had a job interview in sydney last week and worked out that to maintain my current standard of living, i would need to clear approximately $140,000 pa more than i do right now. looks like sydney is out of the question for me.

Re: Nice area of Sydney.

For affordable units, probably Drummoyne, glebe etc in the inner west of the city (10 min drive).

Eastern Suburbs is a bit over rated, nice though.

North shore is pretty good too if you can afford it - try for St Leonards or Waverton - I assume your planning on renting a unit - also Cremorne, Crows Nest and Mosman (all north side).

Unfortunate, but true. Although having said that, we are everywhere from Bondi to the Blue Mountains.

As an example:

I was going to suggest if you are going into a unit, probably around Neutral Bay/Cremorne, but that means farewell to the XR8 as there isn't really much point to having a car living in these areas. Not saying you have to, but just something to think about.

I reckon the North Shore is the way to go, but it's pricey, actually anywhere in Sydney is a bit over the top. Having said that, as the market is still in chill mode, you will be able to find some more "realistically" priced real estate.
