Hi all,
As a few would probably gather I have not been around for the past few weeks I have been flat out sorting out what I'm going to do with my life. As of around 2 weeks ago I was informed that my current position was no longer available and they have cut a lot of jobs state wide. I will be finishing up at the end of the year with my current employment. Bloody government (See even as a government employee your not safe these days).
One problem that it has caused is that the Driving courses I had organised I will not be attending because I need to save all the money I can before I leave. Also the Canberra trip that was getting organised I知 going to have to drop out of also. This really pisses me off, not that I am leaving work but that I organised things that I cannot now attend. I知 also not going straight into a new job I知 currently studying and doing classes to prepare me for exams for my MCP, MCSA and then next year I知 also hoping to get accepted into a 2 year Computer Systems Admin Course to learn some non Microsoft gear and to basically do what I should have done when I finished school. I am not going anywhere and I am keeping my car but I will be just working casual around the place HINT HINT anyone got any work I知 a qualified Warehouse manager can forklift drive wont be needing work until Xmas. Can try cant I LOL. Well I just wish the boys luck on they池e driving courses and wish I could be there. The Go karts day I知 still organising and hoping to attend so I will catch up with a few of you there.
That's a bummer Steve, and unfortunately quite a few FF members lately have been in the same boat. Good luck with whatever comes your way and stay positive.
I really know where you are comming from with this.
I recently was fired from my Government job, no sorry, made Redundant. I spent 2 years training on a Graduate program and was just starting to get into my career, when they threw me out om my arse.
But, I am much happier now. I found myself working for my Dads business when he had a heart attack, and have liked it so much, am staying on.
Unfortunately, it has resulted me moving out of Sydney, but the country is not that bad. Lots of rev heads out here.
shite steve not good news at all, Hope that things work out for you mate. I have my fingers crossed for ya and ill keep my ear to the ground regarding a job.
Chin up mate you just never know, One door closes and another opens, could be the one your looking for......

Snip...
Steve,
Give some of the pimping, er I mean contracting agencies a call and get your resume out there. I have been involved with a few big projects where we have hired uni students etc to do rollouts etc. Its reasonable money and always good if you can put on your resume that you have worked for a multinational company.
Manpower provide about 90% of the contractors for HP as well as Defence so they would be a good place to start. www.manpower.com.au
Some others include spherion and aspect.
Most of the blokes we have hired in the past only needed to be enthusiastic and prepared to work so past experience is not necessarily a prerequisite.
Best Of luck.
Regards,
Tote
I was in this position at the start of the year. Not sure there is a great deal I can tell you that others havent, but, as tough as it seems, keep your spirits up. There will be something else out there. I got my current job offered to me while I was on a contract to the company. If you can, enjoy the break away from work, ut this isnt always easy.
Hope it works out for you.
Gerard

Sorry to hear Steve, seems us government guys are getting shafted from all angles. I work for the department of human services, the government have decided to put us through a merger with another one of our regions to save a mere 2 mil...! to put in in perspective, the departments budget was increased by over 500 mil at the same time! I will have to reapply for my position. It all seems to happen at the worst of times, when we need stability, i've got wedding plans to organise, morgage repayments, investments to look after, and most importantly, how am i gonna but my FPV Turbo!!!
Sorry to hijack your thread steve, just that i know where you're coming from and we all go through it together...
