the sequential shift auto is not acutually a tiptronic, its just a normal auto where you can quickly shift gears by using the lever up or down, as i understand a tiptronic transmission has a clutch that is operated automatically, these do not have a clutch, its an auto. but still a good idea.

A tiptronic is usually an auto box that allows you to select the gear you want to be in - Magnas, BMWs, Audis, Mercs etc are all a form of Tiptronic boxes - auto boxes with this feature. You're thinking of an SMG as used in the BMW M3 I believe.

and by the way, ive always been a die hard holden fan and i laughed when the AU was released but with the BA, i have to take my hat off to ford. Looks wise and spec wise they have released a top car. the XR dash looks amazing but they could've made the XR look a more sportier because it does look too much like the other cars in the series but other then that its a good job.

This Tiptronic main difference wont be for quicker times but holding the gear as you take a bend a maximum speed. Thats where these will kick butt sort of like having a manual.

Worth pointing out that the terminology applied by Ford to this technology is sequential sports shift. Sort of half way house. Clearly it isn't a sequential manual gearbox but rather an automatic with a pseudo manul shift mode.

If it acts anything like the ESS of the AU then it will change up on it's own shortly before the redline anyway.

I read somewhere that shifting the lever across to the left puts the car into a sports program mode - locks out 4th and increases the RPM before changes. The manual gear selection I think is supposed to let you bounce off the rev limiter.

This is very encouraging news. It shows that Ford realise they are in it for the long term and therefore wont just build the best Falcon ever {possibly} and go to sleep. Persistance will be the way to beat Commo.
