Ok, Just had a quick flick through Motor while doin the shopping ... Read bits of the XR6T vs SS article...smiling the whole time...especially when i se the 0-100 times in bold print. 5.8 for the ss 5.9 for the XR6T - Nice.
I flick back a few pages to the HSV Clubbie 260kw blah blah..i'm reading bits and pieces, and at a glance I notice the 0-100 time and the standing 1/4 mile. WTF????? 6.1 Second 0-100 Time? The 1/4mile time is similary greater than the SS and XR6T. Is this True?? Is it a misprint? There is nothing i woul like more than to pull up next to a Y series Clubbie in a XR6T, And smoke his ass to the tune of .2 seconds.
If this is not a misprint, can someone explain why this would be?
also, if this is the case can we expect the XR8 to smoke the clubbie in every respect?
Now i will be forced to shell out some dollars and buy the bloody mag :D
The XR6T V SS was obviously done on a different day, possibly in a different place to the Clubby test. I do believe that the times for the XR6T and Clubby seem pretty realistic considering power to weight etc. That SS run they did was a one in a million run IMO.
I wouldn't take much stock with Motor's times. Don't forget, they are trying to get the quickest possible time with drivers who know how to launch a car and on runways or strips.
These account for nothing in the real world. Beating a Clubbie by .2 secs? you could beat him by 10 if he doesn't know how to get off the line. By the same token, he could do an XR6T by more if you make a mistake or are slow.

Did you check out Wheels? have a look at Wheels:)trust me:)
I don't trust Motor anymore, remember when they gave the thumbs up for the WRX, how quick they go,bla bla bla, then I drove it. They said nothing about turbo lag that's annoying, unless you thrash the tits off it every time lights go green.
Interesting thing that the times for the XR6T are very close in Wheels-Motor-NRMA report. This car is fast under any driving condition.
Unfortunatley we dont have the Nov Edition of wheels here yet. Well, at least i havent seen it :/
I cannot understand why we get Nov Motor but wheels is usually a month behind?
Wheels this month has been a pretty good read for the Ford fan, best I have seen for a while. Motor wasn,t as good. It is hard to believe the times that any of them print because they are all different and done under different drivers and conditions.
and the WRX is slow from 100km/h to 200km/h, not that this is safe practice.
hehe well then i will have to one on the highway then :s5 (er not really, i never race anybody... )
i got that mag a while ago, i dont think the clubbie was doing its best, and the SS was sort of a freak (to quote someone from a different thread: 'press cars are fast, mmmkay? ')
this is something i have noticed with gen IIIs, sometimes you get a HSV that wouldnt pull the skin off a rice pudding, then sometimes you get a statesman that nearly steps out at the back on a 1-2 shift...
i think a SS should do a 14-14.3, the VT SS does 14.4 i think, and it has 220kw, and the VY has 235 but heavier. as i said, some gen IIIs are freaks, so all those darksiders, i hope you get a good one when you upgrade :)
i loved the writeup in general, helps that the XR won :) :) :)
i cant wait till they compare the SS to its true competitor, the XR8
