Heya,

just wondering if anyone can enlighten me on how the demerit points for P plates in NSW operate.
In January of this year I was involved in an accident where I lost 2 points from my Red P's, leaving me with 2 points left on them.
In May of this year I was fined for having no P plates displayed, which also loses you 2 points. However, the cop who fined me told me to get my Green P's before I paid the fines, that way I can still drive.

But - seeing as I have lost 4 points while on my Red P's, does that mean that I now have a 'clean slate' with 6 points on my Greens, seeing as both offences were while i was on my Reds? Or, do the demerit points stay on there for a period of time after the offence as well, and if so, how long?

Basically, I either have 6 as I have not done anything wrong on my Green P's, or I have 2 because ive lost 4 already this year.

So which one is it?!

I thought it was 8 points on green p's. You have lost those 4 points, you'll get them back in 3 years from the offense or something like that, but your new points will add on to your licence so you will have 4 points left.

Red P's have 4 points and Green's have 6.

u lose 2 points for not having ur p-plates on? LOL how slack can they be. it used to be 1 point two years ago when it was the old system. but back then u only had 2 points to play with

You don't have points so to speak. It is based on the number of points you have received in the last year / 2 years / 3 years or whatever period.

So on green, you get 6 points in the period you lose licence.

Friend of mine on her red p's caused an accident and she lost 3 points and is still allowed to drive.
