Does anyone know if the fixed cameras in NSW are capable of booking people heading *towards* the camera? (ie the camera would photograph the front of the car rather than the rear).
From the ones I've seen the sensors are on one side of the road only booking people once they've passed the camera.
This is about to change. At the moment they can only do the car from the rear but the Govt is trying to get the law changed.
I also understand if you get done in NSW and are from another state they will send a fine through to you. Not sure about the points in other states but I bet you will cop a fine.
i dont care about fine i care about points cos im on a probationary licance:S
not happy and the bastards have it on an overtaking lane through the tweed mountains:S didnt see it till too late but i was comming towards it so i hope im ok

There was an article in NSW general press publications the other day saying RTA are about to modify 15 of their fixed cameras to take photos of on-coming cars.
At present they ONLY photograph from the rear, but after monitoring the bus lane cameras that the RTA have they are now 'satisfied' that the privacy issue is 'not' an issue any longer.
So you are currently safe, no fine would be issued, but soon it will be a different matter. The RTA also refuses to say whether all their fixed cameras will be modified in the next year to take photos from both directions, or name the initial 15 that will be modified.
Another revenue raising initiative bought to you by Carl Scully and NSW Labour!
