Make me wonder just where our tax and 'other' revenue goes. On one hand we have money grubbing governments putting more cameras on the road to 'improve safety' (and rake in millions ..) then on the other hand they are taking money away from the crime departments of the force. Shows exactly where thier priorities go.
Next they will be whining about the increase in crime .. and also announcing the next increase in their pay and super.
at a guess, i would suggest the $$$ are funding pollies overseas trips, mobile phone bills, con******ts (who used to work for the governmet at half the cost) and possibly some nice cars and pay rises for your hard working elected representatives.

Howards trying to fund his war with Iraq without eating into the surplus. We will also get hit with a medicare levy to help pay for it. So when it comes to election time he can brag that through good ecomonic management, he has money in the bank.

As badly as Howard needs a personality transplant, I'll take the economic management of the current government over Simon Cream and the ex-union leaders club (oops, I mean the Labour Party) any day...
Surely some here are old enough to remember the 'recession we had to have' and 18% interest rates on home loans! :shifty:
As to funding cuts in the Police force, it has been a policy of all state governments for many years that revenue from 'safety' related fines has been put back into consolidated revenue to prop up the funding of other mis-managed departments so the books of the state governments look healthy! :hrm:
No matter which way you look at it, we'll be getting screwed again somewhere down the track to compensate for this...

Jamie XR6...mate u must have a crystal ball...re.cut back on police force.....in Queensland the goverment is looking at manning the our speed camera vechiles with civilians as they govt. has lost a few unmaned vechiles to fire bombings....(maybe a preluded to fixed cameras)maybe this means the police service and judges have street crime under control and some cops are no longer needed.......or that street crime is running rampant and that the plods can be let outta their vans and get back to policing...............as someone has stated on the forums b4...speed cameras are a lazy way of policing..
I could be wrong, but doesn't the Victorian RTA handle all their cameras?
In a way, it could be a good way to free up Police for other duties.
It's like what the Navy is going through. At the moment, Howard has us patroling the Western seas for illegal immigrants. It ties up a major warship that would be more usefull somewhere else. Not to mention the fact that it is bloody boring and a moral killer.
I'd prefer a dedicated Coast guard to take over this role, so we can be put in a more suitable role.

Everyone is getting confused between the state and fedral governments, Howard has absolutely nothing to do with speed camera revenue which is a state government revenue. Given that you pay your tax dollars to the fedral government, how on earth do the state governments get funding? heres how -
1. Get handouts from fedral government
2. Get handouts from the fedral government with money from other states, IE how NSW and Vic are bankrolling every other state.
3. Stamp Duty
4. Council rates
5. Speed infringement notices.
Income tax wasn't a fedral issue until ww2, when the states released their laws and acepted the constitution on the new tax system. The deal was that income tax would become a state issue after the war. Well the state govt is still waiting.
As for where the hell is the money going in NSW? well simple as we bankroll the rest of the country, NSW govt gets less money per capita than some of the other states, thus they need to find other ways.
Where the hell is the money going ? Your income tax is going towards stuffups the govt have had recently with their own investments, the 8 billion defence force budget surplus "loss" is a key example of this.
State wise ? well in NSW its funding your lovely airport rail link which no one uses, the new parramatta railway line, which no one will really use, the sydney olympic site, which no one uses. See a pattern forming ?
Oh yeah, and together with "political donations", funding the caucuses and media campaign to try to landslide the next election......

I don't see how we are getitng confused with state and federal governments... it's not only the Federal government that levies taxes ... petrol tax for instance is a state tax (ask QLD-ers!!) and there is a myriad of other taxes we pay to the b$#@@%#s
my question was rhetorical really... we all know where the money goes... to the Great Black Hole(tm)
PS... Victoria suffers the worst from the handouts..we have the highest population/area ratio ...
