Numberplate recognition on booze busses

Well hows this for being terribly interesting... Ive recently spoken to my brother in-law whose just transfered to the Booze Bus Patrol..
They are looking at new technology in which scans the numberplate of every car that drives past the booze bus, to check for rego, license, fines etc.....
Looks like its true... Big Brother is watching..
I guess not a bad thing really, It'll get those drunk, scamming dangerous people off the roads

I agree it's a good thing to spot previous offenders and try and ensure they don't try and re-offend but there are some serious privacy issues arrising lately from all this stealth technology.

Re: Numberplate recognition on booze busses

For once I think it's a good idea. Basically, those who are unregistered (and uninsured to go with that) shouldnt be on the road anyhow. If I was collected by an unrigistered driver I wouldnt be very happy....even worse if your only 3rd party and it's not your fault. You have done the right thing and covered your vehicle but some half wit driving around unregistered had just totalled your car and you have no way to recover the money!

So long as it doesnt turn into a revenue hunt it could be good technology.

That's the point. As with so much other technology, the technology itself is great but it's the use it's put to that's a worry. Look at GPS as an example, with all the talk about it being used to track our speeds regardless of what we're on or what time it is. GPS is great but if it's put to that sort of use then they can shove GPS somewhere that's not appropriate to mention.

It's the thin end of the wedge. This is the way they always do it, it starts out being reasonable, so you accept it, then it gets worse. Fast.
