Question Nurburgring record

Ok I am curious to know if anyone has the official list of the fastest production cars around the Nurburgring track. Currently the Porsche GT2 holds it? I was reading this article (http://www.caterham.force9.co.uk/ring.htm) it claimed the GTR time was invalid. Does anyone have a site they know of that show the cars that did the times?

Thanks

I had them somewhere. I'll see if I can find the list. Fastest production car is the Porsche Gemballa 750R. It's from a tuner company but it's still a road car. The fastest actual stock factory car is the Porsche GT2. But what amazes me is they havnt raced the Mclaren F1, Ferrari F50 or Merc CLK-GTR road car there as I'm sure they would get better times than the GT2. Hell Porsche even made a limited GT1 Road car aswell, and that surely would beat the GT2.

As for the Skyline it was in 95, an R33 when it ran 7:59 at the ring. The speed limiter was taken off it and it had a slight boost increase and for that reason wasn't a stock road car.

Curious to know how some of the Brabus tuned SLK mercs would do. FORD HOW COME YOU HAVE NOTHING IN THAT LIST..that GT40 better up there!! hehehe or Ford OZ should build the GTHO to mess around with some of those Euros and Jap cars hehe stir some trouble!!

Thanks again Cobra!!

No worries mate.

That X5 had the same 6.1Litre/627hp V12 that was in the Mclaren f1 road car.

The Viper is the UK spec with only 411hp (dont ask me why) and was a 99 model with no ABS. Just Imagine what a fully blown ACR+ (505hp option from Mopar parts catalogue) could do. Another 15 seconds quicker atleast.

And the Porsche GT3 has actually done a 7:56 aswell a the Turbo. This was done in 1999 but i think most of the laps recorded were from the same drive so they put them in.

Guys... the current production car lap record is held by Gemballa Porsche in a specially prepped GTR600, it is 7:32.5 mins

I have also read repords that the new Porsche Carrera GT will be the first production car to break under 7:30 as it has done it several times in testing, but this is yet to be formalised of course.

If any of you can read German....

GEMBALLA hats wieder geschafft! Im Rahmen des
sport auto - Testprogramms gelang Wolfgang

Cobra... I think that the engine in the X5 was actually the engine that was in the BMW Le Mans car...
Got the info below from supercars.net

522.0 kw / 700.0 bhp @ Not Available rpm

The X5 Le Mans is propelled by the V12 engine carried over from the Le Mans winning car, with unparalleled performance at a corresponding level. The idea behind the X5 Le Mans experimental vehicle originates primarily from a technical ambition: BMW's engineers wanted to explore and demonstrate the X5's real absolute limits in practice. As a positive side effect, their efforts produced a compelling showpiece whose powerful looks reflect its impressive inner values.

The most striking change to the exterior is the bonnet scoop for the air from the radiator. Further exterior modifications were made to the front and rear bumper covers, the wing skirts and sill covers, the exterior mirrors and wheels. The chassis with 20-inch wheels was lowered by 30 millimetres (1.18 inches). Depending on the type of duty this car is applied to, 315/35 or 275/40 tyres are mounted on its front wheels, while its rear wheels are generally fitted with 315/35 tyres. Axle load distribution is almost ideal, at 51:49% front/rear.

Exterior dimensions are basically the same as on the standard X5. The interior, on the other hand, looks quite different, with a definite high-tech touch. The more comfortable standard seats were replaced by four bucket seats with a particular emphasis on sportiness, and aluminium stands out as a predominating element throughout.

Be interesting for Ford to take a car over for a giggle.

Remember a few years ago Motor put a UK GTS300 and an M5 and an E55 around the Ring as well.

They took Big Nose and had one of the Euro test drivers there as well.

Motor put it down as a win to the GTS (wishful thinking) but it did seem to hold it's own, unfortunately was wet so they didn't get to do a dry hot lap.

Being a massive Ford fan this may sound like sacrilidge.. but I think that they should take the nations cup monaro over there, get a German driver and beat the German's at theire own game. My guess is, is that with the right camber and suspension setup... they could take the record from Gemballa

Mmmmmm, that would be very interesting. I agree, it wouldn't surprise me at all if that monster gave the record a shake up.

It would be very interesting to see how some of the aussie road cars did, GT, GTS, XRs etc. and I'd love to see how an Aussie V8 supercar would go too.
