wow what a surprise hey!! well its got me stuffed. the lock mechanism works as do both the inside and outside door handles but it just doesnt open. WTF???
you can hear the everything working when you pull the door handles but it doesnt pop open and now (and who said bench seats were shit??) i have get out of the passenger side.
havent had time to look or try and get the door skin off (happened 5 minutes before i left for work and now its dark) so i was hoping someone could tell me how to get the damn thing open again and what it is i need to fix. the door has dropped but that had been like that since i got it and never had a problem with it before so i dont know if that is the cause. as i said the handles do work and they dont seem to be broken at all so what the hell happened??
i didint even slam the door or anything.
Bright side of this is: its now about 5 seconds harder to steal!!

Yeah hold the handle up and give it a good hard boot fom inside, that should open it. Sounds like it's dropped just that extra millimetre and is now fouling the latch. I reckon you'll find that new door hinges will fix it.

Your mechanism is stuffed. I had this happen a little while back. What happens, is when you lift the handle the door lock is pulled slightly down, half locking the door making it impossible to open. Try holding up the door lock and then open the door, if this works, it's time to get a new mechanism. It's not that it's broken, it's just gotten worn and very sloppy. You'll understand when you pull it out.

This cost me $50 from a very expensive dealer in a country town, in a city it should be pretty cheap. Either that or get a decent one from the wreckers. Took me 30 minutes to do one door and now it works much much better, it also reduces broken door handles as there isn't as much stress on them now.

Let me know if this is the case or if your having problems.

tryed kicking the **** out of the door while pulling the handle but that didnt work. noticed my door trim bowing in heaps at each blow so i gave up on that idea.
just went and tried what you said to do Freak, but it still didnt open. i DID noticed that the lock does move down a litlle (where as the passenger side doesnt) so i pulled that up and try bot the inside and outside door handles but it still didnt work. noticed too that after i pulled the lock up while trying to open the door that it doesnt move down that little bit when pulling the door handle.
if i could just get the damn door open i could find out what the problem is.
might have to go park it down in Wantsead St (the ghetto!) and get the 'hoods' to open it for me.

wind down the window and try lifting the door up while trying to open it.

if that dont work remove the front guard and un bolt the hinge.

yeah tried the window down and all. tried everything. both inside and outside door handles by themselves with and without pulling the doorlock and still no go. got me buggered. really cant be stuffed pulling the front bar off and the guard just to get to the door. isnt there a bolt on the front guard that has to be undone with the door open??
anyone know how to coat hanger it or something just to get it open so i can fix it??
sure its great security but **** is it pissing me off!!

Pretty much the same thing as holding the lock up. But give it a try!!

Coat hangers are easy... make sure you have a little hook in one end and drop it down between the door and the window your aiming for the rod, or mechinsim that releases the latch (obviously). To get a better idea, you may want to take the door skin off the other door and check out the where the mechanism sits and where all the rods run, this way you can get a mental picture of where to stick the coat hanger. Play with the rods to work out which one does what.

Hope this helps a little.
