Hey need help me my friends computer. He wants to be able to print from two printers when need be. He can print from one if its pluged in from the start, if he changes over to the other one, he needs to default the other printer, restart and then he is able to print.
He told me he ever use to have this problem on his computer so im trying to help him out.
You see, I like XP for this reason, and this reason only.

Why does he need to change the default printer ? ( should just be able to select the second printer if it in installed correctly ).
I'd give a bash at new drivers to start with ( especially updated ones ). ( Even try removing both the printers and reinstalling them both from the start ).
Wot sort of error msg does he get ? ( Wot OS ? )
There should be no issue with having both a USB and Parallel printer at the same time.
( Yah I know, obvious stuff, but its best to start at the beginning )

I know you can change most xp settings on the fly.
