Just wondering what ISP's everyone is using. Only really interested in melbourne ones.

This is the info i am after...
Whats the cost like?
What limits are there?
Are they good?
have you had troubles with them?

I use ozemail through Harvey norman. They've got a comp running at the moment to win an XR8. Its drawn in sept or oct this year. if you join using one of their signup disks (get the disk for free at HN)
Its a 12 month contract, the first 3 months free, then $25 per month for the rest.
Unlimited access(hours) might be a download limit (500Mb) not really sure. I'm usually on for at least a few hours every night, and my kids are on 2 or 3 every night and we havent been hit with any extras
The service has been great. Been on now for about 4 months

So long as I win the XR8 I'll be completely satisfied (stoked actually):D :D

Telstra ADSL, but my previous ISP was Access.net.au

Really good service, guranteed max speeds,interstate and international roaming numbers

Telstra Big Poo cable now - but previously iiNet. WA based ISP but have a POP in Melbourne. Pretty good performance.

I'm with bigpond dial up.. On the whole they're really good. Always has decent speed and can get on when I want.
I'm on the essential plan which is $24.95 per month for unlimited hrs with a 300mb download limit. I always go over the 300 cause I spend sooo much time here..

Before FF I was nowhere near the 300 limit..

Im using Telstra Big Pond Cable. yeah its alright - not as fast as i would want it to be..

Laminge - how is ADSL?? Is it better than cable (or what you know of)

I have been using iinet (www.iinet.net.au) since early 1996 and would not switch to another ISP!
I believe they are the biggest privately owned ISP in Australia.. not sure on that one though.

Thwe ISP I used was the one I worked for, which was AiC in Sydney. I left as Network Manager in mid-99 which ended my free net access regime which I'd had since '92. I switched to RPI, for several reasons, the main one being I knew the owner, and he was offering free web/dns hosting for my two web sites, I only pay for the stock dial-up. I was also moving back to Penrith from the coast, so I needed a Sydney dial-up that would be a local call. I still use a 56k modem, but the speeds are generally great and there's never any waiting for a free line.

I'm not keen to jump to cable/adsl just yet, as it's too expensive for such a ****ty service - knowing the industry, it'll be a little while before good quality, but cheap asdl is available.

AAPT Smartchat Net which works well and I have no real issues. Except typical phone company failed to notify me that a far cheaper plan was available despite me being a customer for a long time. I was seriously thinking of going Telstra though.

Thats the ISP I am most interested in so far.
How much would you think you would download in a month?
OzEmail sort of have a megabyte limit...cant download more than 650 2 months in a row.
