Re: P Platers and Hi-Po Cars

I am a P Plater and i have 10 months till i get off them :(
i own a v8 and it sits dead on the 125kw p/tonne power to weight limit.... i worked my arse off to buy that car and i dnt plan on crashing it by being a mindless fu everyone has their opinion on the power to weight ruling and i reckon it's bullshit... personally if you can afford a good car why be punished with being unable to drive it, perhaps a better requirement would be a certificate from an advanced driving course before being able to register it in your name

your damn right they do... my EF is a beast it goes sideways and smokes the fuggery outta my tires at the drop of a hat... made my BA feel like a slug... actually we dragged my EF and BA and the EF beat it by 1/2 a car length off the line and by a car length at the finish line

I have always thought about that idea. There are plenty of safe legal places to 'cut sik' such as drag strips and race tracks, but damn, it is so expensive to get in. I went to the drags a couple of months back and 30 bucks to enter the car + 15 bucks fuel to get there, thats quite a bit of money for me. I could much easily go to to the industrial area down the road at night and do that stuff.
Skaters have skate parks, drivers should have drift parks haha. Although for many obvious reasons i can't see it working. :(

Re: P Platers and Hi-Po Cars

I partially agree with what has been said so far... in relation to the need for more driving education, and the need for a safe place to go nuts in your car. But i totally disagree with the opionions of some in regards to there being power restrictions, or compuslory modifications made to older cars to bring them into line with newer cars.

I drive an XY, its got 4 wheel drums, no seatbelts in the back, no abs, no traction control, no airbags or collapsable streering column. SO I DRIVE IT ACCORDINGLY! Im sick and tired of being tarred with the same brush as the fcuktards who decide the appropriate method to leave from a standing start is to give it as much as it can handle, then a little more, and then dump the clutch. When i have passengers in the back seat, i drive like a my Grandmas Grandma to make sure they're as safe as possible. When im in the car by myself i drive how i see fit to get to where im getting.

I'm not saying im the best driver in the world, but having that red plate on my back window shouldnt automatically put me into the "di(khead 19 year old fcuktard" category. The reason i see myself as a good driver is two-fold. Ive got my truck licence, so i respect my car, and other drivers on the road, and secondly I had my fun when i was younger, pushing my car to its limits and finding out what it could do in a safe environment, by myself.

Re: P Platers and Hi-Po Cars

i think its the driver to blame in general, not the car, but those little ricers are pretty technologically advanced, like abs, that sorta crap, but still, its the driver. I have an st162 (1986 model) celica, just to get me to work, etc. and its good, quick, and stops a hell of a lot quicker then my xy ute...
the power limit wouldnt be a bad idea in qld, i know myself 351+manual+lack of inexperience=shit hits the fan, but im young and silly the bottom line is

Re: P Platers and Hi-Po Cars

Look at the overall picture, not everyone is an idiot, not everyone drives like and idiot either, but - add a little ego, some peer pressure and a couple of mates and all of a sudden you change.

Ricers? sure most have ABS, AWD, and loads of Techno. BUT most of the imports are also very quick, unforgiving and have a pile of go-faster bits dropped in.

The reason that drag strips charge so much is the insurance rates they have to pay, what is needed is a big flat concrete area with concrete blocks around it and a "viewing area" along with a load of signage that says "Safety is YOUR responsibility", add some crowd control and First Aid and $10 to get in should about cover it.

Perhaps you should get a few groups together and investigate your local industrial areas to see if it's possible.?

Meanwhile, if you KNOW you are going to exceed the speed limit/do burnouts/donuts and the like, DON't complain if you get caught! when your on the road you are responsible for your own ACTIONS, not anyone else..
